Duke's Yard is a newly restored collection of historically charming wedding spaces within the grounds of Ashridge House.
Located near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, Duke's Yard brings together Ashridge's most storied buildings, sculpted over centuries by monks and monarchs, around a central courtyard, designed to give couples flexibility across their ceremony, reception and evening celebrations.
This new launch builds on Ashridge House's established reputation as a luxury wedding venue, introducing a dedicated space that combines historic architecture with updated layouts for modern weddings.

About Duke's Yard
Previously known as Monks Barn, Duke's Yard is the next chapter for this part of the Ashridge Estate, bringing together several historic buildings into one dedicated wedding setting.
The space has been carefully restored to retain its original character while introducing a more flexible layout for modern weddings. Rather than centring the day around a single barn, Duke's Yard will allow couples to move between multiple spaces, each with a defined role.
At the centre is a landscaped courtyard connecting:
- The Glasshouse
- The Coachhouse
- The Barn
- The Stables
From a ceremony in the Glasshouse to drinks in The Courtyard, followed by dining in The Coachhouse and an evening reception in The Barn, the layout has been designed to create a natural flow from one part of the day to the next.
Your Wedding at Duke's Yard
Duke's Yard will be available for weddings throughout the year on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with capacity for up to 180 guests depending on how the spaces are used.
Planning is supported by the dedicated Ashridge House team and their recommended suppliers, who are familiar with the venue and can help coordinate timings, layout and logistics across the different areas.
Couples also have access to practical features that support the day, including a dedicated dressing room and a private honeymoon suite overlooking Duke's Yard. On-site accommodation is available for guests within the wider estate, making it easier to plan a full-day celebration in one place.
Each space within Duke's Yard has a specific role, which helps shape how your wedding day flows.
Wedding Spaces at Duke's Yard
The Glasshouse
Originally built in 1864 and once known as the Fernery, the Glasshouse is a Grade II listed building designed to be filled with natural light and surrounded by greenery. This unique space is perfect for tasteful gatherings seating 60 people or 100 for a ceremony.
The Coachhouse
The Coachhouse has been carefully restored using early drawings of the original structure, with oak trusses and smoked oak panelling shaping the space. Designed for dining and wedding breakfasts, it accommodates up to 180 guests and offers a warm, characterful setting for the main celebration.
The Barn
Dating back to the 14th century, the Barn is one of the oldest buildings on the Ashridge Estate. It has been carefully refurbished to retain its original character while introducing modern comforts. With space for up to 180 guests, it creates an atmospheric setting for the evening reception where the building's history remains a clear part of the space.
Duke's Yard Courtyard
At the centre of Duke's Yard is a newly landscaped courtyard, designed to support a full-day celebration where your wedding can flow naturally from daytime to evening.
Connecting The Barn, The Coachhouse, and The Stables, this open space naturally draws guests outside for drinks, conversation and more relaxed moments between the main parts of the celebration.
It's typically used for drinks receptions and outdoor dining, with options ranging from wood-fired pizza to larger BBQ-style feasts. As the day unfolds, the courtyard becomes a central point where guests can gather, move between spaces, and spend time together in a setting that feels open, considered and connected.
Monks Garden
The garden seen today sits just between The Glasshouse and The Barn and was developed in the mid-19th century. It displays an armorial design representing the four families that have been associated with Ashridge. The space is great for a drinks reception to continue the celebrations.
The Stables
The Stables offer a smaller, characterful space within Duke's Yard, ideal for quieter moments during the day and a relaxed nightcap to round off the evening
Food & Catering Options
Food plays a central role at Duke's Yard, with a focus on flexible dining styles that can be shaped around your plans for the day.
Options include:
- Three-course wedding breakfasts
- Shared-table dining
- BBQ-style menus and hog roasts
- Wood-fired pizza for the evening
- Canapés and late-night snacks
Drinks can also be tailored to suit your celebration, with the option to include cocktails or a pop-up bar setup alongside the standard packages.
For couples planning a longer celebration, there is the option to host a pre-wedding dinner, giving guests time to gather ahead of the wedding day.
We all know dancing is hungry work, so the approach to food at Duke's Yard has been thoughtfully curated to give you flexibility in how formal or relaxed your wedding feels, while maintaining a consistent level of quality throughout.
