Our Sustainability Commitments

Blackfriars Priory is a member of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance, with a target for the whole team to be carbon literacy trained by April 2025. The venue completed a renewal of its catering partnerships in 2023 and the selected companies were scored on their sustainability standards, among a number of other criteria. Blackfriars is proud to work with caterers who grow their own produce, offer seasonal menus with low food mileage and reduce single use waste with initiatives such as company wide bans on sauce sachets. The lighting in the toilets has been upgraded to sensor lights, meaning that the lights are only on when in use and electricity consumption is reduced. Wooden planters were introduced in 2024 containing plants for pollinators, to offer an oasis for wildlife in our urban setting. Due to Blackfriars Priory being located in an urban setting, we encourage customers to use public transport wherever possible, to reduce car emissions. All card, plastic and glass generated by events is recycled. Labelled recycling bins have been introduced to encourage visitors to appropriately discard of waste when onsite. The blog on the Blackfriars Priory website includes articles that encourage customers to consider sustainable options when planning events.
