Sophia and Alex got engaged on a family holiday to Portugal, on the edge of a stunning lagoon at sunset. Romantic groom Alex had planned meticulously to make sure he surprised Sophia, and it certainly worked, as she was completely unaware of the plan until he was down on one knee! The couple tied the knot at a fabulous golf club wedding venue in Kent.Â
Summer Wedding Plans
As they got engaged in July, the couple chose this as their wedding month, and selected The London Golf Club in Ash, Kent as their venue. To decorate this gorgeous space, Sophia and Josh opted for a neutral and ivory colour scheme with plenty of natural textures and elegant burgundy accents. They decorated the aisle with beautiful ivory blossom trees on plinths, which were later used in the evening as centrepieces for the tables - an ideal choice for the high ceilings in the London Golf Club's banqueting suite.
Flowers
Floral Explosion created the stunning floral arrangements. Sophia's wedding bouquet was made up of white scabious with ivory roses and a few pale pink roses, interspersed with touches of white gypsophila, jasmine foliage and raspberries. Alex's buttonhole was an ivory rose with foliage and gypsophila trim, and the bridesmaids carried white gypsophila bound with an ivory satin ribbon to perfectly contrast with their wine-coloured maxi dresses.
The Fashion and Details
Sophia looked amazing in her lace fishtail gown with embellished sleeves, low back and sweetheart neckline - but it wasn't the first dress she chose. "I put a deposit down on quite a simple dress, but when I went back to try it on again, my mum, dad and sister they didn't feel it was ‘special' enough," says Sophia. "I agreed to try on a few more just to rule everything else out. Much to my surprise after trying on two more dresses I found ‘the one'!"
Photographer Tom Jeavons was on hand to capture the day and all its beautiful details, and bride Sophia says that some of her favourite shots were those in the grounds of the venue. "Tom has a great eye for what makes a beautiful photo," she says. "I didn't think it at the time, but wading through high grass, in 4.5 inch heels, in a heavy wedding dress, in 30° heat, was definitely worth it!"
The Party and Honeymoon
The newlyweds and guests enjoyed an amazing reception in The London Golf Club, and the live band The Distractions kept everyone on the dance floor all night. There was even a conga line! After the wedding, Sophia and Alex jetted off for a two-week honeymoon to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
