When you take to the floor for your first dance, you’re going to have an audience. If you want to build your confidence, or have a few steps to put together yourselves, or have a choreographed routine to the tune of your choice, then help is here.

Ideally the newlyweds dance alone for two to three minutes. Traditionally they then dance with their own parents and then each other's, although that's up to you. Ask the MC to clear the floor and announce your first dance, and then invite your guests onto the dance floor at the appropriate moment.

If you’ve got a particular song or track that you’d like to use that’s wonderful. If not then take a look at the list of ideas – it covers all sorts of music and there might be one for you. It’s always a good idea to check the lyrics of your song – easily done on the internet – to see if they’re right for your big day. Something with a clear beat will make it easier to dance together and very slow songs can be a little tricky. Let your DJ know that the song should be played from the start, if you have a choreographed routine.
