Just two and a half hours away from London by plane, and enjoying a mild climate all year round with especially long summers, it's easy to see why Portugal is a popular wedding and honeymoon destination. Guides for Brides visited Palacio Estoril, a luxury hotel on the coast of Portugal just a stone's through from the capital, Lisbon.Â
Weddings
Palacio Estoril is the perfect backdrop for a luxury wedding. Enjoy cocktails on the lawn or in the bright, modern Imperial Room, before retiring to the more traditional Atlantic Room for dinner and dancing. Both of the reception rooms overlook the beautiful lawns and gardens, where there is space for a marquee for up to 400 guests.Â

Accommodation
The hotel boasts a total of 161 rooms over five floors, one of which is dedicated to its most luxurious accommodation. We recommend splashing out on one of the twelve duplex suites or a named suite on the luxury floor for the best views of the pool or sea.  For especially large wedding parties there is additional accommodation in the adjacent Convention Centre.Â

Dining
Palacio Estoril offers three fabulous restaurants. The Restaurant Grill Four Seasons has a traditional "man cave" feel about it (perfect for a honeymoon treat for you and your husband), where vintage port is ceremoniously opened with hot metal tongs in the traditional way and the menu changes to suit the season. The main restaurant is in a grand room with a wonderful 1940's appeal. For a more relaxed, daytime bite, the Bougainvillea Terrace overlooking the pool and gardens is a light and airy space serving light meals. The traditional Bar Estoril area is perfect for a relaxing evening drink while enjoying the stunning views of the pool and garden; secret World War Two meetings here were the inspiration for Ian Flemming's 'Casino Royale'.

Spa
There is a strong Thai influence at the Banyan Tree Spa. Relax in the warm hydrotherapy pool, sauna and experience showers, or set up camp on one of the loungers and while away the day with a good book. Treatments are offered by formally trained therapists and all massages include a relaxing foot bath ritual at the start of the massage and a reviving ginger tea at the end. We recommend booking the double treatment room with couples bathtub for the ultimate honeymoon treat.Â

What we love...
A mix of modern luxury with the traditional palatial feel.
