Updated:
8th of March 2023
If you're looking for an Italian hotspot for your honeymoon, the picturesque waters of Lake Garda in Northern Italy provide a romantic and peaceful getaway for your newlywed adventure. Whether you choose to stay in the area for a week or take a day trip to one of the towns, you'll be in for a treat.\n

\nThere are plenty of activities and excursions throughout the year in Lake Garda to keep you entertained. Take a boat trip around the lake where chances are you'll see a lakeside wedding taking place, pay a visit to some of the vineyards in the hills, explore 14th century castles, have adventures on the hiking trails or simply enjoy lunching by one of the harbours.\n

\nSirmione is a favourite amongst tourists, with people returning year after year, and gets particularly busy in the summer months. It's home to the historic Scaliger Castle on the waters of the lake, a must-visit for history lovers. It's one of the most well-preserved castles in Italy and the views from the walls are unmissable. After exploring the castle, head along the waters edge to find some wonderful Italian restaurants and incredible gelato.\n

\nIf you fancy a fun day out there's a fantastic waterpark, Canevaworld, complete with flumes, adult pool, lazy river and restaurants, or you could head slightly south to the theme park, Gardaland, for a zip on the rollercoasters or to check out the sea-life centre.\nFor some spectacular views of Lake Garda, why not jump on the cable car at Monte Baldo and hike to the top. Get there before 10am to avoid the swarms of day-trippers and enjoy the views from the top with a drink as the para-gliders jump into the wind. Remember to take a jacket as it can be pretty chilly up there.\n

\nBardolino is another favourite amongst visitors, with easy walks around the lake between the towns. It's much quieter than some of the other areas with some lovely olive groves and vineyards around, whilst being close to Gardaland. There's a lovely local olive oil and wine festival in Bardolino in late September and October if you're going for an early autumn honeymoon.\nIf you're looking for somewhere to stay, there are plenty of lake-view hotels with very high standards of service. Hotel Villa Katy in Bardolino is a family-run hotel with lovely staff who will go to any lengths to help you (plus can give you tips and advice on great things to do). Hotel Porto Azzurro in Sirmione has excellent reviews, despite its smaller size, and has a lovely infinity pool, plus you can hire a free bike from the hotel to explore the area at your own pace.\n
