There's no "one-size, fits-all" when it comes to your honeymoon. And while we often hear people going to Paris or Maldives for their honeymoon, newlyweds who are craving some unique adventures might choose to visit other destinations instead.

If you're the type of couple who yearn to do something different on your honeymoon getaway, check out this list below. Whether that's going for an exciting expedition to Antarctica, hanging out with orangutans in Borneo, or ice climbing in Vermont, get inspired by these unusual honeymoons suitable for active couples.

Antarctica

Antarctica exploration for adventurous couples

When you think of a honeymoon getaway, Antarctica may probably not be the first thing you will think about. Rugged, remote, and extremely cold, it's not exactly what most couples dream of visiting for their first trip as newlyweds. But if you are looking for something unforgettable to do on your honeymoon, then you should consider an expedition in Antarctica

Venturing to Antarctica on your honeymoon is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Unlike most honeymoon destinations, there are no luxury resorts in Antarctica. Your accommodation will most likely be on a ship. There are many great options to choose from, though, depending on the amenities you prefer to have.

With its serene and snowy landscapes, not to mention an abundance of wildlife, Antarctica is a haven for couples who love adventures. Very often, many adventurers dream of visiting this part of the Earth. Yet, only a few travellers are brave enough to check it off their bucket list. But if you and your partner dream of doing something unusual for your honeymoon, then you should go for a thrilling Antarctica expedition.

Kauai

Kauai Hawaii honeymoon destination for adventurous couples

For newlyweds searching for beautiful beach sunsets and adventures on the water, why not go to the beautiful island of Kauai instead of the usual Maldives or the Caribbean? Known as the "Garden Isle", it's the greenest, lushest, and wettest of all Hawaiian Islands.

While Kauai is one of Hawaii's most popular tourist destinations, it still has its laidback vibe. And if you want your Kauai honeymoon to be something a little bit different, stay at one of the luxury vacation homes on the island. Although you will find many luxury resorts in Kauai that cater to honeymooners of all kinds, staying at a romantic Kauai vacation home means you will have a kitchen, living room, and even posh amenities like a pool and a Jacuzzi.

What's great about honeymooning in Kauai is you will have plenty of activities to keep you busy. Active couples can go surfing and jungle trekking. Other activities include kayaking at the stunning Na Pali coast and hiking at the scenic Kalalau Trail.

Borneo

Borneo tip exploration

For couples who love animals more than anything on Earth, you probably want your honeymoon getaway to be all about the wildlife. But forget about the usual African safari. If you want to do something unusual, fly to Borneo and hang out with the orangutans!

Borneo has a wide variety of flora and fauna, including bats, sharks, turtles, proboscis monkeys, and orangutans, coupled with untouched jungle, remote beaches, and some of the world's best diving spots. Indeed, it's a haven for nature lovers and those who want to explore the wild. The best thing to do in Borneo on your honeymoon is to spend some time at an Orangutan sanctuary.

Orangutans borneo

There's something unique about orangutans. It could be their very expressive eyes and gentle nature, which makes them very similar to humans. On your visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, you will learn more about these animal species and get close to orphaned and injured orangutans. Aside from orangutans, the sanctuary is also home to other wildlife species, such as Sumatran rhinos and sun bears.

Milan

Milan

While some couples would prefer to unwind and hit the pause button on their honeymoon, those who love cars would go the complete opposite route. Fuelled by their love for speed, adventurous, car-loving couples would prefer to take up full-throttle adventures on their honeymoon. Luckily, there's no shortage of unique experiences for the most serious car enthusiasts out there.

Milan is a great destination to consider for car lovers. As one of Italy's most fashionable cities, it's known for its glamour and prestige. If you're looking for good entertainment that includes fast cars, you will find it in Milan.

F1 Grand Prix

Consider renting a Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, or whatever it is that you fancy. The city is a real paradise for car lovers, so you will find any car you want here. To make the most of your honeymoon getaway, book tickets to the Italy Formula 1 event. Happening in September, the Italian Grand Prix is one of those sports events every car lover should witness.

Vermont

Vermont may not be a popular honeymoon destination. However, its forested natural beauty, scenic hiking trails, majestic green mountains, and dazzling white ski trails make it an ideal getaway for couples who love nature and adventures. This US state is located in the New England region and borders the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York. It's also close to the Canadian province of Quebec.

Vermont autumn trees and lakes

If your honeymoon getaway is in winter, Vermont would be an ideal destination. It offers many ski vacation opportunities, with various terrains suitable for all kinds of skiers. Here, you can go ice climbing and skiing in Woodstock, particularly in the Suicide Six Ski Area. It sets the tone for a classic winter ski holiday in the mountains and features gentle terrains best suited for beginners. The ski resort welcomes snowboarders and skiers to its downhill slopes and recently updated terrain parks. Here, you can go birdwatching, wildlife viewing, fishing, or hunting.

COuple ski honeymoon Canada

Aside from skiing, Vermont offers plenty of other outdoor activities for active couples. Here, you can go hiking, trail running, swimming, biking, and camping. The state is also home to abundant wildlife living amongst its lush jungles, soaring above its stunning mountains and sustained by streams running down its rivers and lakes.
