\nElounda is perfect for those who want to avoid the vibrant nightlife scene but still want to experience the buzz of a holiday atmosphere with other tourists. Elounda is about an hours drive from Heraklion Airport, with frequent buses and good hire car availability to see you on your way.

Spinalonga

\nFor history lovers the number one place to visit is Spinalonga, a manmade island originally built as an island fortress before being turned into leper colony. So much happened here over the years, and if you don't know much about the history of the place it's worth getting a tour guide to get the full benefit of your visit. You'll have to take a boat over to the island and you'll find that many of the locals are willing to take you over after the tour boats have finished so you can experience this atmospheric place in a more peaceful environment. At the end of the day head to the Taverna Ferryman, a famous restaurant away from the traffic overlooking Elounda bay and Spinalonga island.

Elounda Beach

Make sure you try out some of the traditional Greek food. if you can head over on a Friday morning to enjoy the market that runs alongside the beach.

Scuba Diving
