8 Ways to Practice Self-Care While Planning Your Wedding

You’re a glowing bride and you want to keep up that glow. You should already be pampering yourself regularly, but when you’re a bride you sure deserve to do it even more so! Wedding planning is a big task that can be stressful. So, it is good to take some time to indulge in self-care so wedding planning doesn’t become a dreaded chore.

This doesn’t have to be anything time-consuming, extravagant or expensive! Simply stock up on your favourite bubble bath or bath bombs, treat yourself to your favourite wine, and buy a new face mask each week. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself. The stress and overwhelm that can be brought on from wedding planning is not healthy and one of the best ways to combat it is by pampering yourself to some “me time” that’s completely unplugged and serene. Whether you are the kind of person who loves a luxurious spa treatment or is content getting lost in a good book, read on for more ideas on how you can practice self-care while planning your wedding.

Soothing Scents

Certain smells are able to calm us down and soothe our nerves. So, discover a scent you find relaxing, whether it is from a scented candle or essential oils and a diffuser, then let it soak over you in times of stress. You could even bring it on your wedding day! The power of smell is a strong one so while your eyes are closed as you get your makeup done, take a deep breath and soak in your favourite blend and think of your significant other waiting for you at the end of the aisle.

If you are looking for a special candle to calm your wedding planning nerves, try Bride Calm by Wynnie Tam Tam, a new luxury candle brand. Bride Calm is perfect for the bride looking to find calm in the midst of wedding planning stress with a natural floral scent made from a gorgeous blend of Lavender, Geranium, and Ylang Ylang.

Keep Moving

Many brides maintain a regular workout routine as they get ready for their big day, but working out is more than that. Exercise gives you happy endorphins and is an excellent break and distraction from wedding planning! You may not be an avid gym-goer, so find a type of exercise that you love so that working out doesn’t seem like a chore. This can be anything from swimming to country walks or an impromptu dance party! Whatever it is, you’ll feel better if you keep moving.

Eat and Drink Well

All brides typically become extra aware of what they’re consuming leading up to the wedding and sometimes that can actually lead to becoming unhealthy. If you’re not getting the proper nutrition that you need, you’re not only putting your health at risk but you’re also setting yourself up for more stress. When you’re eating well and staying hydrated, your body is happy and healthy. Therefore, it’ll handle stress better and you won’t feel so drained all of the time. In fact, keeping yourself hydrated is the simplest and most natural secret to boosting your energy levels, managing weight, and relieving your skin from any unwanted toxins.

Relaxing Tunes and Podcasts

Relaxing Music

Everyone’s definition of relaxing is different, so, whatever your music taste, make a personal playlist of your favourite songs to listen to while doing wedding tasks. Whether that be upbeat music to jam to or relaxing instrumental, there’s no wrong answer here as long as you are feeling calm and can unwind. Getting lost in a good podcast or audio book is also a popular way to calm your mind. So find one you enjoy, whether it's true crime, music, sport or even a wedding podcast.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Sleep is the foundation for proper digestion, stress management, and energy levels. Wedding planning on top of everything else in life is exhausting, so it’s important that you sleep well. Try to get in your 8 hours each night and sleep in when you’re able to. This means no late-night wedding planning as this will seriously throw off your sleep cycle and probably give you strange wedding-related stress dreams!

Try Delegating

Practising self-care means ensuring you don’t have too much on your plate. Delegating is one great way to relieve yourself from wedding planning stress. That’s why you have a bridal party! Don’t be afraid to lean on your loved ones when you need to. Have them help with DIY’s, calling around places, or even running small errands. Or, if you don’t want to put too much pressure on your loved ones, why not hire a wedding planner? They can help you task manage or take over the tasks altogether.

Have Downtime With Your Partner

Self-isolating date night ideas: Picnic in the garden

While you and your partner are planning for the future, don’t forget to make time for each other in the present! Take some time away from wedding planning together and make sure you have some fun time together as a couple. This doesn’t have to be extravagant celebrations, in fact, it will be nice to have the opposite! Try and plan a few relaxing date nights where you can recharge and take some time away from the wedding to reconnect.

Take a Break

This is more than the ‘go for a run’ or ‘date night’ we have suggested so far.  Wedding planning is essentially a full-time job on top of your already busy schedule. So, just like any other job, you’ll need to take a break from it. Wedding planning every single day is simply not worth the stress. Even if you only do a few small tasks, you’ll still be thinking about it throughout the day! Give yourself at least 1-2 days off from wedding planning each week. This means absolutely no planning during your days off and no wedding talk at all. This may seem drastic but these breaks will make the rest of your wedding planning, and the eventual day itself, far more enjoyable.
