In Mount Stuart Square, once the core of Cardiff's shipping industry, stands The Coal Exchange. This Grade II* listed building was constructed in the 1880s as a central hub for the global coal trade, and it is where the first recorded million-pound business deal was made. Following a restoration in 2017, the building was reopened as The Coal Exchange Hotel, retaining the character of its significant past.

The main space for weddings is the Exchange Grand Hall, the building's original trading floor. Its Renaissance Revival design features paired Corinthian columns, an expansive oak balcony, and rich wood panelling. This hall can seat 350 guests for a dining experience or hold up to 600 for a standing reception. The venue holds a civil ceremony licence, providing a setting for both the service and the following celebrations. Additional spaces include the Carruthers Suite.

Wedding packages include the services of a dedicated wedding coordinator and an event manager to guide the planning process. The hotel offers flexibility with both all-inclusive and dry-hire options. On-site catering is provided by an in-house team whose seasonal menus focus on local and regional produce. For large Asian and Indian weddings, the venue also provides a separate catering kitchen.

For guests staying overnight, the hotel has 75 bedrooms, some of which feature whirlpool baths. A bridal suite is available for the couple on the night of the wedding. The building also contains Culley's Bar & Restaurant and has accessible facilities.
