About Creeksea Place

Situated close to the River Crouch, near Burnham on Crouch, with guest accommodation nearby. Historic venue with a walled garden, lakeside wedding pavilion and reception marquee.

Our main manor house was built in 1569 and the estate retains many original features, with an original walled-garden and orchard where the BBC’s Great Expectations was filmed, so you can immerse yourself in history with a wedding at Creeksea Place.
Couples can marry in our walled garden, within the house or on the little pavilion over the lake, with guests seated on the lawn.
Receptions are held in a marquee in the gardens.

The Expert's Opinion

Alison Hargreaves

"This is a venue that is absolutely steeped in history, with original features throughout. The car park has mature trees in and around it, which sets the scene immediately; it is venue that you'll love for its historic authenticity, and if you are looking for modern convenience and manicured perfection, this is not for you. It's an estate that is big enough to intrigue your guests, but small enough to explore. Before approaching the house, I wandered through the woods to the right of the drive, across a gently sloping lawn to a pretty pavilion. Unlike other wedding pavilions, this wasn't just lakeside, it stretched out over the water. Perfect for photos, although the sloped lawn is perhaps not the most practical spot for wedding guests to witness the marriage from. Heading back to the house and through the front door, you are engulfed in history, with the one slightly modern touch being the bar area. Guests spend minimal time within the house itself, with the walled garden being a favourite spot for the ceremony and confetti arch, before guests walk through the centre of the manor house to the gardens beyond. The gardens are relatively enclosed, mainly grass and informal borders, with a large traditional marquee to one side. It is the sort of venue that feels perfect for traditional lawn games on a summer evening. If you are into history and are looking for a gorgeously unique venue, this is well worth a visit."
