About Ingatestone Hall
Ingatestone Hall stands in the Essex countryside about a mile from the village that shares its name. Built in the 16th century by Sir William Petre and still owned and occupied by his descendants, the house retains much of its original Tudor form with mullioned windows, high chimneys and oak-panelled rooms surrounded by enclosed gardens and lawns.
The Hall functions as a private residence and welcomes use of its rooms and grounds for weddings and other private events. A civil ceremony licence means couples can hold their legal ceremony on site, and the premises are also licensed for live music and alcohol. There is no dedicated in-house wedding planner; an in-house events coordinator assists couples in planning and delivers information on options and supplier choices.
Inside the house, five principal rooms and four garden areas can be used alone or together for different parts of a wedding day. Outside caterers and suppliers from an approved list are required for extra services such as catering, marquees or entertainment. The Hall’s proximity to several village churches offers an option for couples who choose a church ceremony before moving to the house and gardens for celebrations.
