About Ingress Abbey
Ingress Abbey is a Grade II listed Gothic Revival house on the banks of the Thames in Greenhithe, Kent. Built in 1833, it has welcomed royal guests, including Queen Elizabeth II. Marry here under our civil ceremony licence with up to 100 guests, then celebrate in the Gold Room, the Red Room, the Orangery, the courtyard and the gardens. The Coach House sleeps 7, ideal for getting ready. We host one wedding at a time, so the day is all yours.
Built in 1833 for James Harmer, Alderman of the City of London, Ingress Abbey has nearly two centuries of history, and Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh visited in 1962. If you prefer, hold your ceremony elsewhere and bring everyone back to the Abbey to celebrate.
Each space has its own character. The Gold Room, with its chandeliers and gilded mirrors, is perfect for dining and for dancing the evening away. The Red Room, with red damask walls, twin chandeliers and a bay window onto the gardens, is a richly elegant room for your ceremony, a drinks reception or an intimate dinner. The light-filled Orangery is lovely for drinks or dining, and the Hall & Gothic Gallery sits at the heart of the house. Outside, the flagstone courtyard is made for drinks and mingling, and the gardens and lawns offer beautiful backdrops for photographs.
Dine together in the Gold Room for up to 50 guests, or spread through the grand rooms for a relaxed house-party feel. For everyone together, a marquee in the gardens can welcome up to 100 guests, arranged through our circle of specialists at additional cost.
The Coach House sleeps 7 in 3 bedrooms, with a sitting room, dining area and kitchen, for getting ready in the morning and relaxing afterwards.
Venue hire is from £5,000 for 25 guests, plus £200 per additional guest, up to 100 guests (£10,000 for 50, £15,000 for 75, £20,000 for 100). Ingress Abbey is offered on a dry-hire basis. Catering comes through caterers from our approved list, who have use of the commercial kitchen, and you are welcome to bring your own DJ or band. Hire runs from 7am to midnight, and there is parking on site for around 30 cars.
