About Folkerton Mill
A warm and heartfelt welcome to Folkerton Mill in Scotland, where love and uniqueness intertwine to create unforgettable moments! We are thrilled that you've chosen to explore our venue, and we can't wait to be a part of your special journey. Folkerton Mill is more than just a venue; it's a unique canvas for your love story and wedding celebrations. We specialise in bespoke, exclusive use weddings with a personal touch because your special day deserves nothing less than the extraordinary!
If you are looking to have your wedding in a truly unique venue with rural rustic charm in every nook and cranny, then Folkerton Mill may just be the place you have been looking for!
Folkerton Mill is a grade B listed grain mill and records suggest that a Mill has been on its South Lanarkshire site since the 1700s, with the most recent collection of beautifully crafted stone buildings built in 1871. The Mill was working as recently as the 1970s and the large cast iron water wheel is still intact and visible on the side of the Mill from the garden.
The whole place is steeped in rural rustic history with toilets housed in the old piggery and the bar area making use of the Mill incorporating all the old machinery. The gardens, accessed via a wooden bridge over our gorgeous wee burn, have beautiful views over the Scottish countryside and are overlooked by the Mill building and the water wheel.
So much of the physical history of the Mill still remains, its as if the Miller switched off the machinery one day, hung up his tools, closed the door and never came back. Tin cans and tools still hang on the wooden pillars that support beams, the leather grain belt still remains on the pulley system and the large iron cogs that were driven by the wheel are still in place in the wheel house.
We have been careful to leave everything as it was, taking nothing away and working around the history, resulting in a genuinely unique and intimate space in which to have your celebration.
To preserve the soul of this special building, Folkerton Mill will be exclusively available just a handful of times each year. We don't plan on becoming a wedding factory where you are shipped in and shipped out! We want you to enjoy your day to it's fullest and allow you time to relax and really enjoy the days celebrations with your family and friends.

Our Sustainability Commitments
We have included several options for your wedding package and built some simple ideas into the way we run our venue that mean you can walk down the aisle knowing that your future, and the future of many others, will be brighter! -The Folkerton Mill bar In addition to being constructed from reclaimed, recycled and preloved components, all the bar stock is as locally sourced as we can make it so it has travelled as few miles as possible. -Natural confetti: As part of the wedding package you can include natural confetti made of dried flower petals and wood shavings. It smells incredible! -The piggery toilets: Our quirky toilets are constructed from reclaimed, re-purposed and preloved components. -Transport: We include a 50 seater coach from a location of your choice (max distance 40 miles from Folkerton Mill*) to reduce the number of vehicles needed to get people to your wedding. -Plant a tree: We will plant a tree of your choice** in the grounds of Folkerton Mill for every wedding that we host. You can either plant the tree yourselves as part of your celebration day or we can plant the tree for you. -Our whole venue is recycled! We are not a purpose built venue, we have simply re-purposed a beautiful old building that otherwise would have been left to ruin. -Renewable future: We will use revenue from the weddings to continue with the restoration of the Mill so we can preserve this little piece of history for another 200 years and beyond. Eventually we would like to get the water wheel to turn again to produce renewable energy so the venue will be self-sufficient and run completely using renewable energies. -Wild flowers: Our gardens are beautifully wild, we leave as much of the natural fauna as we can to grow wild and actively encourage the growth of Scottish wild flowers. -Brochure: We don’t print our brochure. All the information you need is available online and we can send you an electronic version of our brochure on request.
