About Abney Park Chapel
Abney Park Chapel sits within Abney Park Cemetery on Stoke Newington High Street in London. This 19th-century Chapel was designed by William Hosking and stands as the oldest surviving non-denominational chapel in Europe. The Grade II listed building has undergone improvement work that includes new stained glass windows, additional seating on its mezzanine level, updated flooring, modern toilet facilities, and improved electrics and lighting.
The Chapel can hold up to 70 people in total, with 50 seated on the ground floor and a further 20 on the mezzanine. It is licensed for wedding and funeral ceremonies as well as drink receptions and other events; it does not have a kitchen or separate prep areas, so hot food and sit-down dinners aren’t possible inside the space itself.
Furniture and AV equipment, including a Bluetooth speaker and a projector and screen, are available on request. Dogs are permitted at wedding ceremonies only, there is Wi-Fi throughout, and the venue is wheelchair friendly. There is no dedicated parking on site.
The Chapel’s setting within Abney Park – a biodiverse green space listed on Historic England’s register of parks and gardens – frames the building with monuments and mature trees that extend beyond the event space and into the wider landscape.
