Friars Court is a privately owned, 17th-century former manor, surrounded by beautiful gardens and a 500 year-old moat. As a ceremony-only venue, we offer couples the freedom to create a relaxed and personal celebration, whether that's an intimate gathering of just a few guests or a larger ceremony in one of our beautiful garden settings.

Friars Court occupies a unique niche in the world of weddings. We don't host receptions or offer wedding packages. Instead, we specialise in one thing: civil ceremonies, allowing couples to get married in a setting that feels more like a private country home than a wedding venue.

The house has been the home of the Willmer family since 1917, and one of the reasons couples find it welcoming, calm and refreshingly uncommercial.

There are several locations where couples can choose to exchange their vows: beneath the Rose Arbour, next to the historic moat, beside the wooden pergola, beneath the cherry tree (particularly beautiful when in blossom), or inside the light-filled Garden Room. Each has its own character, atmosphere and views across the gardens.

We place as few restrictions on ceremonies as possible. If you'd like to get married on a Saturday afternoon with only a handful of guests, that's absolutely fine. If you'd like to enjoy drinks in the gardens after the ceremony while photographs are taken, we'd be delighted to help. Afterwards, the couple, and their guests, continue on to their reception venue of choice.

With over three acres of gardens and grounds to explore, with mature trees, colourful borders, ponds, willow tunnels, and sweeping lawns, there are countless opportunities for memorable photographs.
