Bean Downes is an Independent Celebrant based in the SW of England, creating bespoke wedding ceremonies that feel honest, personal and deeply considered. With a background in counselling, psychology and performance, Bean brings warmth, creativity and a strong sense of narrative to every ceremony - ensuring it truly reflects you and your story. Every wedding ceremony I create is entirely bespoke, built around who you are as a couple, what you value, and how you want your day to feel. There's no template, no one-size-fits-all script. Just a ceremony that's genuinely, authentically yours.

I'd usually begin with an initial conversation, in person, online or by phone, where I get to know you both. Your relationship, your story, what brought you together, and what you're hoping your ceremony will feel and sound like. From there, I'll craft a bespoke ceremony script, which we'll shape together until it feels just right.

We can explore everything you might want to include: your vows, readings, music, rituals, moments of humour, moments of stillness. You may want to involve friends or family, or keep it just between the two of you. If you need help shaping your vows or choosing readings, I can offer guidance throughout.

My background spans studies in counselling and psychotherapy, a master's in psychology, festival and event production, performance and voiceovers, and I draw on all of it. I bring warmth, lightness, a strong sense of narrative and a creative eye for detail, holding space with sensitivity and putting people at ease from our very first conversation through to the moment you say your vows.
I honour all beliefs and backgrounds, whether your ceremony is spiritual, religious, non-religious, or somewhere entirely in between.

I also play the Hang drum and handpan, a unique, ethereal Swiss instrument often described as looking like a spaceship and sounding like a harp. Having played at weddings and in hospital settings, I know the profound atmosphere it can create. Live Hang Drum music is available as an optional addition to your ceremony.

I serve couples across Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Devon and Cornwall.
