About Maya El Nahal

Weddings are big celebrations and joyous rites of passage, with the ceremony at the centre of this. As your celebrant, I bring a vibrant, welcoming, and sensitive energy to our relationship, building creative and engaging ceremonies that honour the fullness of you and your partner. Independent over humanist or religious celebrancy means I can build a celebration that exactly fits your story, with as much or as little spiritual content as feels right. I work across Scotland with all couples.

I have been lucky enough to be raised in a family that values ceremony, that takes time to honour rites of passage, and respects many different approaches to spirituality. Of Irish, English, and Burmese ancestry, my family’s approach to celebration and ceremony has always been unique and often centred on Nature. My hope now, is to share that with others, especially those who feel there is no room for them in current spiritual spaces and conversations. As a member of the queer community, I know that everyone is deserving of honour and all love is worthy of celebration: I am proud to celebrate all families and people.

As a celebrant it is my privilege to be your guide and companion through life’s biggest changes. A wedding is one of those big changes, and I feel a great honour in creating the ceremony that marks such a transition. Taking a moment to honour the gravity of marriage can generate a deeper sense of calm and a stronger foundation on which to build your life together. You and your partner might return many times over the years to remember words said at your wedding and celebrate the promises you made together, through easy times and difficult a good ceremony can act as an anchor, affirming again and again your choice to navigate life together.

So whether you want to have your wedding barefoot on a beach, or indoors in your local hall, pulling from traditions of your families, or with no spiritual elements whatever, to have a giant party or an intimate elopment. I can work with you to produce something suited to your needs that will stay with you for a lifetime. This day and your vision matter, let me help make it happen.
