A registrar is a government official who handles the legal side of marriage, conducting short, standardised ceremonies in licensed venues. Your registrar meets you on the day. An Independent Celebrant creates unique, personalised, non-legal ceremonies anywhere. They tell the couple's story with complete creative freedom, including the elements they want and work with you for many months to create your chosen ceremony.
The main difference is that a Humanist Celebrant conducts strictly non-religious ceremonies grounded in reason and human values, excluding prayer or worship, which is known as Humanism. An Independent Celebrant offers complete flexibility, able to incorporate as much or as little religious, spiritual, or cultural content (like hymns, prayers, or specific rituals) as the couple desires, reflecting their beliefs or traditions.
Yes - I will write the ceremony for you. Once you book me, I will send you a questionnaire to complete, and I will draft your ceremony based on your answers. It is your ceremony, and you can add and amend until we are all happy.
You can write your own ceremony and vows, but I will be there for guidance and support throughout our time working together.
In a Celebrant Wedding Ceremony, there is no expectation of what should be included in your ceremony. It is your ceremony, so you can guide me on what you would like to include and any ideas or rituals you wish to explore.
I cater for LGBTQ+ weddings and work with you to create your personalised ceremony.
Yes, I do cater for interfaith weddings, and this is one of my specialisms.
I don't need to meet you before the wedding day, but if you would find it useful, we can make arrangements.

As an Independent Celebrant in the UK, I am currently not allowed to perform a legally binding marriage or civil partnership ceremony.
