About Rachel Parkin Celebrant

Hello! I'm Rachel, an Independent Civil Celebrant based in South Birmingham. If you're looking for a special kind of celebration, look no further! I’ll create a unique ceremony that will tell your story and let your personalities shine. No stuffy scripts, no rules, no limits! With me as your celebrant, you can be sure of a magical, memorable ceremony, all about you. I'll tell your story and help you celebrate in your own unique style.

Choosing me as your celebrant opens up all kinds of possibilities for your wedding. Once you've sorted the legalities at the register office, I can bring the fun stuff!

You can hold your ceremony wherever you like, as long as it's safe and accessible. Whether it's a country house, a woodland glade, a rustic barn or your favourite pub, the choice is yours. You can even get married on a campsite and have a full-blown wedding festival!

You don't have to follow a set plan and say prescribed words. Together we can create a meaningful, memorable ceremony with you at the heart of it. You can write your own vows, or if you need some guidance, I'm happy to help. Your family and friends can play an active part, for example in reading poems or performing music.

You can write your own vows, or if you need some guidance, I'm happy to help. Your family and friends can play an active part, for example in reading poems or performing music. You can even include your four-legged friends too!

There are no rules, so you can be as creative and quirky as you like! Celebrant-led ceremonies lend themselves perfectly to themed weddings - circus, fairytale, goth, steampunk, rock 'n' roll - the possibilities are endless!

You can include symbolic actions such as a handfasting ceremony, a unity candle, sand ceremony or tree planting. These actions offer beautiful visual elements to a ceremony, and can make for a truly memorable experience for all involved. You might want to add something a creative from your shared interests, for example something sportyGartistic or musical. Whatever your passions are, we can include them in your ceremony to create an unforgettable experience!

FAQs

Firstly, a celebrant is an independent business, whereas registrars are employed by a local authority. Next there's the legal difference: A registrar can conduct a legally-binding wedding or civil partnership ceremony; a celebrant cannot. The key difference between a celebrant and a registrar is that the celebrant will work closely with the couple to create a personalised ceremony, full of depth and meaning. Another difference is that there are no restrictions on your ceremony content.

A humanist ceremony cannot contain any religious or spiritual content, whereas an independent celebrant ceremony can. This is a good option for mixed faith couples, or for couples who want a religious element in their ceremony without a church wedding.

My ceremony fee for 2025 is £800, and for 2026 is £850.

Yes, I'll work together with you to craft a script that tells your story and lets your personalities shine.

You can have as much input as you like! If you're writing your own vows or other ceremony content, I'll need to know about it before the ceremony. This is so that I can rehearse the delivery and so that no-one has any surprises on the day!

No, there are no rules, so your ceremony can take whatever form you like! I can suggest some content and structure, but ultimately it's up to you!

Absolutely! My first ceremony was a big gay wedding (their words!) in Kings Heath, Birmingham. It was a full-blown street party, full of love and joy. Love is love, and I'm here to celebrate it - no matter who you are or whomever you love.

Definitely! As an Independent Celebrant I can incorporate religious or spiritual elements into your ceremony if you wish. I'll work with you to make sure we celebrate your combined traditions, beliefs and values.

Oh yes! How else can I create a personalised ceremony for you?! After our initial meeting, there will typically be 4-5 further meetings. I'll find out all about you and we'll work together to plan your ceremony. About a month before the ceremony, we'll have our final planning meeting where we'll go through the script and make sure we've got everything you need. If you'd like to rehearse the ceremony a few days before the wedding, I can do this too - subject to the availability of the venue.

Ideally, get in touch once you've set the date. It doesn't matter if you haven't got a venue confirmed; the date is more important than the venue. I only conduct one ceremony per day. If I'm available, I'll organise a meeting and you see if I match up with what you're looking for. If you do decide to book, I'll take a deposit and reserve your date, then I'll start planning your amazing ceremony!

Under English law, the answer is no. But there's an easy way to have your marriage or Civil Partnership legally recognised: A statutory ceremony at your local register office. This is a simple, 'no frills' ceremony which satisfies the legal requirements of marriage. Once you've done this, you're free to celebrate your marriage or Civil Partnership, wherever and however you like!
