About April - companionship - chaperone

April arranges a professional plus-one for guests attending a wedding on their own — a modern chaperone. It begins with a planning call, so your chaperone arrives knowing who's who and what matters. Someone to arrive with, sit beside through the wedding breakfast, and see the evening out with. Strictly platonic and entirely non-romantic — not a dating or matchmaking service. Identity checks on both sides; every chaperone screened and referenced. Based in Bristol, working across England.

A wedding invitation addressed to one person can land a little oddly. Most guests go anyway and have a lovely day. Some would simply rather not walk into the room on their own.

April exists for those ones. We arrange a professional plus-one for weddings across England — a modern chaperone. It is the old idea brought thoroughly up to date: someone poised, warm and impeccably well mannered, whose whole job that day is to make sure nobody ends up standing on their own beside the drinks table.

HOW A DAY WITH APRIL WORKS

It begins with a planning call. April learns the shape of the day — who is marrying, who will be on the table, the family history worth knowing and the subjects best left alone. A suitable chaperone is then matched to the client and introduced by video beforehand, so nobody is meeting a stranger on the morning of a wedding.

On the day itself they arrive briefed and entirely at ease. Someone to arrive with. Someone to sit beside through the wedding breakfast, talk to during the speeches, fetch a drink during the receiving line and see the evening out with. The client gets to enjoy the wedding instead of managing being at it alone.

WHERE THE BOUNDARIES SIT

April is strictly platonic and entirely non-romantic. It is not a dating or matchmaking service, and never pretends to be a partner. Identity checks are carried out on both sides, and every April chaperone is screened, referenced & briefed before joining. Bookings are made for a single occasion, with no membership & no subscription.

WHO BOOKS APRIL

Men and women alike, from their thirties upwards. Some are recently single or widowed, some are travelling in from abroad, some have simply been invited at a moment in life when there is nobody obvious to bring. Going to a wedding on your own is an ordinary thing to do — April is for the guests who would rather not.

FAQs

April isn't a planning service — we provide a professional plus-one, a chaperone, for a guest attending a wedding on their own. A wedding booking is £1,095 for up to six hours and £1,295 for a full day. That covers the planning call, matching, a video introduction before anything is confirmed, and identity checks on both sides.

A set fee, quoted and agreed in advance for the occasion. Never a percentage of a wedding budget — we aren't a planner and we have no involvement in what the day costs.

No. April is usually booked by a guest rather than by the couple, so it sits outside the wedding budget altogether. There is no membership, no joining fee and no subscription.

No. We attend whichever venue the wedding is being held at, anywhere in England. We have no preferred supplier list and we take no commission from venues.

We don't plan weddings at all — we accompany a guest to one. We work right across England, with travel and any overnight stay agreed in advance. Weddings abroad aren't something we cover at the moment.

Everything April does is on the day. A booking covers a single occasion, from arrival through to the end of the evening. It does begin with a planning call and a video introduction beforehand, so nobody meets a stranger on the morning of a wedding.

No. April is a plus-one service only. We don't style, plan, coordinate or supply anything for the day itself.

April is run by two women, with a team of chaperones. One chaperone attends per booking, matched to the client and introduced by video beforehand. Every chaperone is identity-checked, screened, referenced and briefed before joining us.

In most cases there's no need to. An April chaperone attends as a guest's plus-one and appears on the seating plan like any other guest. If the couple or the venue would rather know, we're very happy to be introduced — but we take no role in running the day.

No. April is strictly platonic and non-romantic. A chaperone is good company for the occasion — someone to arrive with and sit beside — nothing more. We never pretend to be a partner.

Whatever you're comfortable with — we agree it on the planning call and your chaperone sticks to it. Most clients simply say "a friend". Discretion is part of the service.

Yes, and it's a lovely thing to do. We arrange it quietly with your guest first — nobody is ever surprised with a plus-one. It only goes ahead if they'd genuinely like it.

Commitment to LGBTQIA+ Couples

April is for everyone. Our clients are men and women alike, and a chaperone is matched to the occasion and the company, never to an assumption about who a guest ought to arrive with. Same-sex weddings, same-sex pairings and non-binary clients and chaperones are all equally welcome, and always have been. If it would help to talk any of this through before booking, please just ask — nothing about it is awkward at our end.
