New York may not be one of the most popular places to visit for a honeymoon. But given the many attractions you can explore here and the tons of activities you can do with your new spouse, your honeymoon in New York State can be very memorable.

Whether you're looking to relax or explore, New York will have something for you. Below, check out the five incredible places to visit on your honeymoon in New York State.

1. New York City

New York City features a blend of small-town charm and big-city splendour. Amid its iconic landmarks and towering skyscrapers, you'll find distinct boroughs and neighbourhoods offering unique attractions and experiences.

One of the reasons why many travellers avoid New York City is because it has built a reputation for being an expensive city to explore. For couples on a budget, consider staying in the areas of Central Park, Time Square and the High Line in Brooklyn. These are some of the cheaper places to stay. Consider getting a city pass to save money when getting around the city. It's also worth reading the New York travel guides to research about New York and gather tips on how to enjoy your honeymoon on a budget.

There are many romantic activities to enjoy in New York, such as taking a stroll through Central Park, riding a horse carriage, going for a dinner cruise, or indulging in a romantic dinner at one of the city's world-class restaurants. If you're into museums, check out the Museum of Modern Art and the Met, then finish your day watching a wonderful show on Broadway.

2. Syracuse

If you want to step away from New York's busy streets and magnificent skyscrapers, head to Syracuse. It's a well-equipped city where honeymooners can get a taste of the upstate landscape while enjoying excellent food options and visiting beautiful historic buildings.

Enjoy a scenic train ride to Syracuse, which is particularly beautiful during fall or spring. Explore Clinton Square, which is home to some of the incredible architecture that the city is known for. If you happen to come here in winter, the city will be covered with lots of snow, and it is truly breathtaking! For couples who want to explore nature, head out of the city and visit the Highland Forest, about half an hour away from Syracuse. It has several scenic trails for runners and hikers. Make the honeymoon even more romantic and experience New York State glamping by staying in a magical treehouse rental in the woods.

For couples who love food, stroll through the Central New York Regional Market, where you'll find an abundance of fresh, local produce. Keep your eyes peeled for those doughnut and bread vendors and treat yourself to these delectable pastries!

3. Niagara Falls

Oozing with a romantic vibe, the Niagara Falls State Park has awe-inspiring scenery and is a must-visit on your honeymoon in New York. The 162-hectare park was designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, who was also the designer of Central Park.

The best way to explore Niagara Falls is to take the Maid of the Mist boat ride, where you will be taken to the base of the falls. Immerse yourself in learning everything you want to know about this iconic landmark. Venture into Goat Island to enjoy the best views of the falls and walk among the well-manicured grounds. Listen to the roar of water and marvel at the clouds of mist rising into the sky. For a more exciting experience, try visiting at night, where a multitude of colours illuminates the stunning waterfalls.

For a truly romantic experience, dine by the Niagara River. There are plenty of romantic dining options in the area. Enjoy fine romantic dining on a riverfront patio at Bella Vista Ristorante, or check out the Top of the Falls, which overlooks the stunning views of Niagara Falls.

4. Catskills Mountain

Boasting old-world charm and quaint historic towns, the Catskill Mountain offers honeymooners an array of outdoor activities. Although it's a destination you can visit all year round, the region glows even more during autumn. The stunning mountain scenery offers a kaleidoscope of colours, making your honeymoon even more romantic.

Make a stop at the Brandenburg Bakery, which you'll find in the charming little town of Livingston Manor. Indulge in freshly baked pastries, biscuits, and freshly baked bread. Immerse in Catskill's history by visiting historic towns, particularly Kingston, the first capital of New York. Wander through its scenic streets and marvel at the ancient old architecture, which tells the story of the Dutch occupation during the 17th and 18th centuries.

For a taste of the local culture, head southwest to the city of Bethel, famous for hosting the Woodstock festival. Visit the Catskill Distilling Company, which offers tours and tastings of different alcoholic beverages, from vodka to gin and whiskey.

5. Long Island

Long Island offers a variety of amazing places to spend your honeymoon. There are gorgeous beaches for romantic seaside strolls, excellent restaurants, and many outdoor activities. If going on a picnic followed by a relaxing walk by the lighthouse is a good idea for you, the Long Island is the perfect destination to spend your honeymoon.

Head to the Montauk Lighthouse to enjoy a scenic stroll and have a picnic by the sand. Check out the gorgeous Westbury Gardens, and wander around the more than 160 hectares of manicured gardens, ponds, and lakes. The Hamptons is also a wonderful destination to visit on your honeymoon. Easthampton, in particular, is a charming seaside village with trendy art galleries, colonial architecture, and beautiful white-sand beaches.

Some of the best beaches on Long Island are those around the south shore, including the East Hampton and Fire Island National Seashore. If you prefer to visit a more secluded beach, head to Caumsett State Park or look for quiet spots around Montauk. At Long Beach, you'll find a beautiful boardwalk, an ideal spot to enjoy a romantic stroll, especially around sunset.
