In a city of impressive 5* hotels, the architects designing the Marina Bay Sands had a lot to live up to. Built on reclaimed land close to the main tourist district in Singapore, the area around the hotel will gradually develop into a new Marina Bay district.
In the meantime, within the hotel itself there is enough to keep you entertained for a few days. The Marina Bay Sands has everything; 2561 rooms, a three acre rooftop tropical park with bars and restaurants, a 500 ft long infinity roof top pool, a shopping mall, casino, conference centre, art and science museum, the list goes on. If that isn't enough, a skating rink and two theatres are due to open by the end of 2010. Doubles start at £173 for room only, as of November 2010
Or for a mere £8200 you can stay in one of the suites, which include a karaoke room, a gym, steam room and kitchen.
At the other end of the scale, if you just want to take a peek at this most outlandish of hotels, for £10 you can ride the high speed lift for 30 seconds for a peek at the 57th floor Skypark.
