The minimoon is essentially a shorter version of a honeymoon. Instead of flying to far-flung destinations for a week-long celebration of romance, a minimoon is only a short romantic break, a time to unwind and slow down after the wedding celebration.

Thanks to its stunning beaches, cultural attractions, abundant sunshine, and incredibly romantic views, Greece is a favourite destination for couples. Thus, it's no surprise why many would come here for a minimoon. If you're one of them and need inspiration on where to go, check out our list of the best Greek islands for minimoons.

1. Rhodes

Rhodes Temple Ruins

Steeped in history and romance, Rhodes is the perfect destination for romantic getaways like minimoons. Here, you can spend your days strolling hand in hand in the picturesque alleys of Lindos, relax at the secluded cove of Fokia, or marvel at stunning sunsets over the Old Town. While you can easily get lost in Rhodes' alleys and narrow walkways, some sites worth exploring on your minimoon are the impressive Palace of the Grand Master and Knight's Street.

The Acropolis of Lindos should be one of those places you should not miss on your visit to Rhodes. It's a complex of ancient monuments commanding magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. As the most important and impressive archaeological sites on the island, the archaeological remains found in the area are a testament to the historical wealth of the ancient town.

Rhodes is one of the Mediterranean's best wine-growing regions. Thus, one of the activities worth considering on your minimoon is a wine tour. The island has over 7,000 acres of vineyards producing some of the region's most delectable wines. Booking a private wine tour is the best way to learn more about the island's wine industry while sampling different wine varieties.

2. Mykonos

Mykonos Greece Windmills

Mykonos is an excellent place to enjoy a luxury honeymoon in Greece, thanks to its romantic atmosphere. It's renowned for its traditional whitewashed architecture, magnificent beaches, and picturesque pedestrian-friendly streets with plenty of shops and restaurants.

A boating tour is one of the most romantic things couples can do in Mykonos. Many of these tours will take you to the island's most beautiful beaches, and you can also include activities like snorkelling.

Visit the famous windmills for some photo ops, and head to Little Venice to admire the most stunning sunset views. Walk through the maze of alleyways in Little Venice and grab a bite or two at one of the restaurants by the waterfront.

When deciding where to stay in Mykonos, book a hotel by the beach, although you'll also find excellent options around Little Venice or in the centre of Mykonos Town. Since you're on your minimoon, you may want to splurge on pampering and a little bit of luxury, so consider booking a luxurious hotel that offers relaxing massage treatments and a spa.

3. Santorini

Santorini Greece minimoon

When it comes to a honeymoon in Greece, Santorini often tops the list, thanks to its romantic vibes and picturesque views. The famous Greek island offers numerous things for couples, from marvelling at breathtaking sunsets to indulging in candlelight dinners and relaxing at the beach.

Going on a cruise is one of the most romantic ways to explore the island. A private island cruise in Santorini will take you to secluded beaches and coves while stopping for water activities like kayaking and snorkelling. After your cruise, head to one of the island's clifftop restaurants for a romantic candlelight dinner. Don't forget to order the island's most delectable wines. In fact, you can also go on a wine tour in Santorini if you want to discover the island's local wineries.

There's no better way to enjoy your minimoon in Santorini than strolling hand in hand in the picturesque villages of Oia and Fira. These villages exude timeless beauty and romance. Enjoy the sea breeze and marvel at the blue horizon overlooking the stunning villages.

If you and your partner are fond of swimming, the best place is Eros Beach. Here, you can swim to your heart's content and relax by the shore as you soak up the beautiful scenery.

4. Kefalonia

Kefolonia Asos Greek Island For Minimoons

Kefalonia may not be as famous as Santorini when it comes to a honeymoon in Greece, but it has plenty to offer for couples looking for a romantic break. In fact, you will find plenty of luxury rental properties in Kefalonia geared towards couples looking for a romantic place to stay on the island.

Kefalonia is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, which is one of the reasons to choose the island for your minimoon. Beaches like the Myrtos and Antisamos beaches are the most popular on the island, but there are also secluded ones for couples who want privacy. Regardless of the beach, you will enjoy swimming and snorkelling as the water is crystal clear.

After a day at the beach, visit some of Kefalonia's pretty villages, and walk hand in hand in its cobblestone streets. Head to Fiskardo, a stunning place famous for its pastel-coloured houses lining its picturesque harbour. If you need a break from walking, stop by one of the cafes for some snacks and drinks.

5. Naxos

Naxos Mount Zeus Greece

Naxos is the largest among the islands in the Cyclades, famous for its golden sand beaches with crystalline turquoise waters. The island's mountainous interiors are home to traditional whitewashed villages with a network of footpaths, perfect for strolling hand in hand. For adventurous couples, consider trekking to the summit of Mount Zeus. It's the highest peak in the Cyclades and offers breathtaking views over Naxos and the nearby islands.

But if you prefer a relaxing minimoon, chill out on one of the excellent beaches of Naxos. Plaka Beach is one of the most popular places to sunbathe, featuring a long stretch of golden sand stretching from Plaka to Maragas. If you want to enjoy privacy, head to the section of the beach close to the town of Agios Anna, which offers seclusion amid rocks and trees.
