About Melville Castle
A memorable, romantic wedding venue with an experienced event team who can support couples at every stage of their planning process. From elopements for two and vow renewals to weddings of up to 150 day guests, and 200 evening guests, we can host celebrations of all sizes. Ceremonies can be held in the Castle, outside on the lawn, or at the local church. The wedding breakfast and evening celebrations take place in a modern marquee, and there are 33 bedrooms for guests wanting to stay the night.
Beautiful Grade II listed Melville Castle is one of the region's most popular wedding venues. With a mile-long driveway to the Castle, 54 acres of parklands, and a history dating back to 1786, it’s easy to see why this hidden Scottish gem has found its way into the hearts of so many. The Castle can accommodate intimate elopements for two and grand celebrations for up to 200 guests. Edinburgh is a short drive away, making Melville a convenient venue for guests travelling from afar, and the Castle has 33 bedrooms and suites for those wanting to stay the night. Ceremonies can be held outdoors on the sweeping south lawn or inside, in one of the elegant state rooms or grand ballroom – a light-filled space with period-style windows. Both options can accomodate up to 150 guests. For the reception, there's a majestic marquee that comes with chandeliers, fairy lights, a bar and smart bathrooms. Here you'll sit down to a wedding breakfast of exquisitely-prepared, seasonal dishes crafted by the Castle's talented team of in-house chefs. As the sun sets on your special day, you can dance the night away in the marquee, enjoy a dram or two of whisky in the Castle's atmospheric Library Bar, or toast your love under starry Scottish skies. Absolutely! Melville Castle is an enchanting venue. Exclusive use will give you run of the grounds, the castle, and all 33 bedrooms. For the ultimate castle wedding experience, we recommend exclusive use! We offer exceptionally competitive prices for exclusive use weddings.
As a Scottish wedding venue, we don't actually require a license! In Scotland it is the individual (e.g. the registrar) who holds the license, as opposed to the venue. This means that you can get married anywhere (with the landowner's permission!) With that in mind, we have complete flexibility on where you hold your ceremony - in the castle, on the lawn, or in the surrounding grounds. We are also within easy reach of a number of churches.
Definitely! Outdoor weddings are available at Melville Castle. You can get married on the lawns or in the surrounding grounds.

We have our own in-house catering team who can create bespoke menus for each wedding. We do not have facilities for outside caterers, but you can get a taste for our menus and the wide range of options by downloading our Wedding Brochure on our website.

We can host up to 150 guests for an ceremony and wedding breakfast and then 200 in the evening, this includes use of our marquee. If the castle is to be used without marquee it is 70 guests and 100 in the evening.
