About Newburgh Priory

Newburgh Priory is an exclusive use stately home nestled within the breathtaking Howardian Hills in North Yorkshire, offering a breathtakingly romantic setting for your wedding. Exchange vows in the historic ruined Priory or the elegant Long Gallery before celebrating in the magnificent grounds. This versatile venue provides a stunning backdrop for creating a truly bespoke and unforgettable wedding day.

Newburgh Priory: A Timeless North Yorkshire Wedding Venue

Set within the heart of the North Yorkshire countryside, Newburgh Priory offers an exclusive and unforgettable setting for your wedding day. From the moment you arrive, the house and its magnificent grounds become entirely yours, allowing your celebration to unfold in complete privacy.

Exchange your vows in one of the Priory’s licensed period rooms, each rich in history, elegance and architectural charm - perfect for weddings of up to 100 guests indoors. For something truly extraordinary, couples may also choose an atmospheric blessing among the romantic ruins of the original Augustinian Priory, a breathtaking backdrop for a moment to be remembered forever.

The sweeping, immaculately kept lawns provide a spectacular blank canvas for a marquee reception accommodating up to 300 guests, offering complete creative freedom to design a celebration that reflects your vision. At Newburgh Priory, flexibility is key; couples are free to work with their preferred suppliers, ensuring every detail feels personal and perfectly considered.

Across the estate, a wealth of stunning photographic settings await from the grandeur of the house itself to the tranquil lake, enchanting water garden and charming walled garden. For added ease and comfort, elegant on-site accommodation is available for the wedding couple and selected guests.

More than a venue, Newburgh Priory is a place of timeless beauty where your wedding story can unfold with elegance, romance and individuality.

FAQs

A wedding at Newburgh Priory gives you Exclusive Use – which means the House and Gardens are yours for the day – we’re also pooch and child friendly so all the family can attend!

Newburgh Priory holds a civil ceremony license so you can say vows in one of three Georgian rooms in the house from small intimate gatherings for 20 or up to 100 guests (with more to follow in the evening).

We can also offer the option of an indoor/outdoor wedding - enjoy a ceremony for up to 300 in the Long Gallery Ruin then you & your partner sign on the dotted line inside one of our Georgian licensed rooms with a registrar.

We don't charge corkage but your caterer might so just double check with them!

We don’t limit you to our “Suggested Suppliers” we can guide, advise and suggest suppliers that know our venue well but we don’t tie you in to anyone specific – the choice is yours.

Exclusive Use means you have access to the house from 8am until midnight on your wedding day. If you opt for a marquee, you can have access to the site the day before from 8.30am-6.30pm to decorate & make your own.

Carriages for your event is at midnight

We don't have specific noise restrictions.

We do allow Fireworks at the Priory – so you can finish your dream day off with a bang!

We do allow biodegradable confetti only, outside of the house and in our romantic ruins

Yes, we allow candles in sconces or similar to protect our historic surfaces from wax and flame from contact.

Although we don’t have accommodation on site we are extremely lucky to have an abundance of places on the doorstep in the village of Coxwold – Newburgh House in particular stands at the gates of the Priory so you can enjoy your first night as bride and groom a stone’s throw away with your guests local too.
