About Newburgh Priory
Newburgh Priory occupies a historic country house estate in the Howardian Hills near Coxwold, North Yorkshire, set within extensive grounds of lakes, formal gardens, woodland and rolling countryside. The house, originally founded as a monastery in 1145 and extended across centuries, stands amidst this landscape with uninterrupted views toward the Hambleton Hills and the White Horse of Kilburn.
Couples can take exclusive use of the estate for their wedding day, with civil ceremonies licensed to take place in any of three Georgian reception rooms. The Large Drawing Room offers south-facing light and views to the gardens, the Dining Room brings high ceilings and a prominent fireplace, and the Small Drawing Room provides a more intimate setting and space for group photography.
For indoor-outdoor options, vows or a blessing or humanist ceremony can be held in the Long Gallery Ruin before the legal signing in one of the Georgian rooms or in a local church. After formalities, couples and guests can move into the grounds for drinks, dining and dancing. For larger celebrations and evening receptions of up to around 300 guests, there are marquee or tepee sites including within the Long Gallery ruins or on the Ancient Lawn at the edge of the parkland.
Historic interiors, extensive gardens and uninterrupted views form a setting for photographs and gatherings. The venue’s team supports planning from early stages through to the day itself, and couples have the flexibility to work with suppliers of their choice.
