About Lydia Kraitman Cakes

Lydia Kraitman Cakes creates elegant, seasonal wedding cakes and dessert tables inspired by the flavours and landscape of Somerset. Each design is handmade from scratch using locally sourced ingredients, with a focus on flavour, texture, and detail. From tiered cakes to abundant dessert tables, every piece is crafted with precision, creativity, and care.

Lydia Kraitman Cakes specialises in modern, seasonal wedding cakes and dessert tables that combine craftsmanship, flavour, and understated elegance. Each design is guided by balance and simplicity, using ingredients that reflect Somerset’s orchards, farms, and fields.

A professionally trained pastry chef, Lydia spent years working in high-end hotels before founding her business, bringing refined technique and precision to every bake. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, with many flavours inspired by produce grown in her own garden - from orchard fruits and edible flowers to herbs and berries. Every cake is baked, filled, and finished by hand, using thoughtful combinations such as lemon, chocolate fudge, pear and caramel, and strawberry and white chocolate.

Dessert tables create a sense of abundance and discovery, layered with miniature desserts that reflect the season. Each table can be paired with a cutting cake, with styling and florals available on request.

For smaller celebrations, Lydia offers afternoon teas and grazing tables for intimate weddings and elopements, featuring Somerset-inspired flavours like cheddar and herb scones, brie and caramelised pear sandwiches, and mini tarts.

Every commission is delivered and styled by Lydia herself, ensuring seamless coordination with venues and suppliers. Her approach is calm, professional, and detail-driven, offering clients both structure and warmth throughout the process.

Rooted in a respect for flavour, craftsmanship, and the environment, Lydia Kraitman Cakes brings a thoughtful and sustainable touch to every event, creating food that looks beautiful and tastes even better.

FAQs

Every design is different, but most of my couples spend between £600 and £1,200 for their wedding cake. Prices vary depending on the size, number of tiers, level of decoration, and the amount of sugar work or painted detail involved. There’s a minimum spend of £500, which covers design time, premium ingredients, and the care that goes into baking, decorating, and delivering each cake. I’ll always provide a detailed quote after we’ve discussed your ideas and guest numbers.

Yes. I offer postal tasting boxes several times a year, which can be ordered through my website. Each box includes a selection of seasonal flavours and gives you a chance to try my baking before securing your date. Once your booking is confirmed, we will arrange a design consultation, usually over Zoom, to discuss your ideas, colour palette, florals, and any inspiration you would like me to work from. From there, I will create a digital sketch so you can see how everything will come together.

I recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance, especially for popular summer dates. Smaller weddings or weekday celebrations can sometimes be fitted in with less notice, but I can only take a limited number of bookings each month. If you already know your date and venue, it’s never too early to get in touch and check availability.

Yes, I can make cakes without gluten, and many of my recipes can be adapted. However, as my kitchen handles gluten, nuts, and other allergens, I cannot guarantee that any item is completely free from traces. I always recommend providing a separate dessert option for guests with severe allergies.

Some of my recipes can be adapted to suit vegan diets, although not every flavour works well without dairy or eggs. As with all special dietary requests, I’ll always be honest about what’s possible while keeping the same level of quality and flavour. Please note that my kitchen handles dairy and eggs, so I cannot guarantee there will be no traces.

Many of my cakes and desserts can be made without nuts, but as my kitchen handles nuts and nut products, I cannot guarantee that anything is completely free from traces. For guests with severe allergies, I recommend providing a separate dessert or liaising with your caterer to ensure their needs are safely met.

I have a menu of seasonal flavours inspired by Somerset produce – from classic favourites to more creative combinations. Popular choices include Lemon, Chocolate Fudge, Pear and Caramel, Strawberry and White Chocolate, and Woodland Berry. You’ll also find more seasonal options like Blueberry Lavender and Earl Grey, Plum and Hazelnut, or Apple and Spiced Caramel. I’m always happy to create something unique that reflects your tastes or the season of your wedding.

Yes, absolutely. Most couples choose two or three flavours so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Each tier can be a different flavour from my menu, and I’m happy to guide you on combinations that work well together.

No. I can only decorate cakes that I have baked myself to ensure food safety, quality, and structural stability. Every cake I make is designed, baked, and finished from start to finish in my own kitchen.

Yes. I personally deliver and set up every wedding cake to ensure it arrives safely and looks exactly as planned. Delivery is available across Somerset and surrounding areas, with costs calculated based on distance from my kitchen in Ashcott. I’ll liaise directly with your venue and florist to make sure everything comes together smoothly on the day.

I deliver across Somerset and regularly travel to venues in Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire, and Bath. I’m also happy to travel further afield for larger weddings and events, and I’ll always provide a delivery quote based on distance and setup requirements. If you’re unsure whether your venue is within range, just send me the postcode and I’ll confirm availability and costs.

This is possible with some designs, particularly smaller cakes or semi-naked styles that don’t require on-site decoration. I’ll always advise if your chosen design is suitable for collection and provide clear storage and assembly instructions. For larger or more detailed cakes, delivery and setup are required to ensure everything arrives safely and looks as intended.

Our Sustainability Commitments

Sustainability runs through everything I do. My cakes and dessert tables are shaped by the seasons, using ingredients from Somerset and the South West wherever possible. Having previously worked as a marine biologist, I’ve always cared about where things come from and how they’re made. I work with small farms and producers who share my values: Dairy: Yeo Valley, Longman’s, Brue Valley Farms, Rodda’s, Wyke Farms, Bath Soft Cheese Co, Godminster, Westcombe Dairy Eggs: Marshfield Farm and neighbours who keep free-range hens Fruit & honey: Local gardens and orchards, Saegar’s in Cheddar, Black Bee, Devon Queens Spirits: Cheddar Spirit Co, Black Cow Vodka, Somerset Cider Brandy Company I grow and forage many ingredients myself and plan menus around what’s in season. Orchard fruits, herbs, edible flowers, blackberries, rosehips, damsons and elderflower often make their way into the kitchen or onto my cakes. I keep every stage of the process as low-impact as possible: Sustainable flowers from Polly’s Petals, No plastic decorations or single-use props, Hire-based display pieces Locally sourced, biodegradable packaging with minimal plastic, Solar-powered kitchen and electric delivery vehicles, Recipe planning that reduces food waste For me, sustainability isn’t just about reducing impact, it’s about supporting local producers, celebrating the landscape I live in, and making sure every cake tells the story of Somerset in the most thoughtful way possible.
