About Rachael Meyer Humanist Wedding Celebrant

Classic, warm, interesting and engaging wedding ceremonies with a creative twist, a rollercoaster of emotions, and plenty of personality. I'm a full time, professional Humanist wedding celebrant, originally from Harrogate, but now based in the fabulous city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. I get to know my couples, and write and deliver highly personalised, non-religious, romantic, fun and memorable wedding ceremonies across Newcastle, The Northumberland Coast, County Durham and North Yorkshire.

I'm a professional writer and a confident presenter who can deliver a story led, romantic wedding ceremony that will have your guests smiling, laughing and crying with tears of pride. No two ceremonies are the same as no two couples are the same! You can stay traditional or be completely off the wall! In a relaxed (and long) meeting, we have some fun laying down the foundations of a ceremony that is really “you”!

With all our ideas merged, and with the help of copious notes, I can create a script that includes your own meaningful vows, symbolic acts, readings, music, your love story and anything else you want to include! It’ll be so bespoke that your guests will believe we’ve known each other for ages!

Your wedding can be as formal or casual as you like. My style is smiley and chilled but very professional. My ceremonies are inclusive, heartfelt, emotional and fun. They are designed for everyone to enjoy – whatever your culture, religion, race, gender or sexual orientation – and they’re a wonderful, warm way to mark and celebrate one of the most important days in your lives.

Nothing phases me, and in fact I have been known to rise to the challenge of delivering a completely bespoke ceremony with 24 hours notice! (long story).

I love dogs and music and have a background in photography, video, event management and professional writing.

Please note at the moment, humanist ceremonies are not yet legally recognised in England or Wales (watch this space!), so couples need to do the legal part of the marriage separately. Please also note that I am fully booked for 2024, and have limited availability for 2025, so please get in touch soon! I'd love to hear from you.

FAQs

A registrar will register your marriage legally. A celebrant will write you a completely bespoke, highly personalised wedding ceremony script and deliver it on your wedding day. A celebrant-led wedding ceremony is all about you. They can be conducted anywhere as the venue does not need to be licensed, and with a humanist celebrant led wedding ceremony, there are no rules!

Absolutely! All my wedding ceremonies are inclusive - whatever your colour, sex, gender, sexual orientation, background, culture or religious or spiritual belief. One of the photos of my LGBTQ weddings ended up on a massive billboard in Northern Ireland to celebrate the legal recognition of same sex weddings!

Yes, as a creative, professional writer, I will meet you both for around three hours, ask you a million questions, scribble down everything you tell me, and turn it into a beautiful, memorable script that will be presented in person on the day, and also in a presentation folder at the end of the ceremony as a keepsake. I send you the script for approval around a month before the wedding date, so that you can make any amends and so that you are fully in control of the content! I will also coordinate with all contributors on your behalf if you would like me to.

Yes, you can certainly write your own vows and/secret letters. Or I can write them for you, with your specific wishes incorporated.

There are no rules in a humanist wedding, but I like to include words on love and marriage, a love story, a reading or poem, music and at least one symbolic act (eg ring exchange, handfasting or unity candle ceremony). The style is led by you - completely traditional or completely off the wall! The options in between are endless - let's talk!

2021 is really busy already, particularly on March - October weekends. However, please do note I still have a little bit of availability on those weekends, and midweek slots are sometimes available too. I have more availability between January and April, and from October to December 2021. I have already started taking bookings for 2022 so please get in touch as soon as you can!

Yes, I meet all my couples for around three hours. This meeting is necessary to go through all the logistics for the ceremony, talk about music, readings, guests, contributors and of course your love story, your views on love and marriage, your wishes and we also go through a lot of ideas to make your ceremony completely unique and memorable.

My fee is £550 for 2020 and 2021, and £600 for 2022 and onwards. I charge mileage at 50p / mile for meetings and ceremonies over 15 miles away from my home town.
