2023 Met Gala Inspired Looks Perfect For Your Wedding Day

The 2023 Met Gala was held on the 1st of May and was as star studded as ever! The Met Gala's theme this year was to celebrate "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty". Karl Lagerfeld was a renowed German designer who headed fashion houses such as Chanel and Fendi as well as his own label before his passing in 2019. The Met Gala is a charity event to raise money for the Metropolitan Museums annual fashion exhibit which follows the same theme as the event and runs for several months following the gala which is held on the first Monday in May every year.

In order to honour Karl Lagerfeld's German heritage the co-chairs alongside the Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour are all European and they were: Penélope Cruz , Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa. Karl Largerfeld's fashion was deeply connected to European culture.

The Gala sees many celebrities from industries such as fashion, film, television, music, sports and social media and the event is organised by the fashion magazine Vogue. This year model Karlie Kloss and tennis champ Serena Williams announced their respective pregnancies alongside their partners.

The theme meant that many stars wore Karl's signature colours black and white as well as several odes to his high collared style. There were also some nods to his beloved cat Choupette! We've taken some inspiration from some of the looks this year and have made this blog to highlight how you can copy them for your wedding day. Afterall, Karl was behind Chanel's Couture show always having a bridal grand finale!

Doja Cat's Sequined Feline Look

Doja Cat pictured on the left above was one of the stars who boldly dressed as Karl Lagerfeld's beloved cat Choupette. She added a prosthetic piece to make her nose and mouth look more feline as well as having a bold cat eye and even cat ears attached to her Oscar de la Renta dress hood. The dress completed the dramatic look complete with sequins and feathers! Rihanna's Fashionably Late Floral Ensemble

Rihanna arrived to the carpet fashionably late and looked as gorgeous as ever. The pregnant star arrived with an oversized floral coat covering her dress which she then draped over her shoulders to reveal the complementing dress to complete the Maison Valentino look. We love the flower power of this look so we have found a dress that echos this idea by having a large ruffled flower on the shoulder. This Grecian Goddess inspired dress has a less structured bodice and skirt than Rihanna's which is perfect for a bride who wants to be able to dance the night away!

Florence Pugh's Plunging Gown

English actress Florence Pugh debuted her shaved head that she requires for her upcoming role in the Dune sequel on the Met Gala carpet last night. Pugh wore a plunging Valentino gown with dramatic train and sky-high headdress. We have found a show stopping dress in similar fashion for all the brides-to-be from Elysee Atelier - the Versailles dress. The sweetheart plunging neckline and fitted bodice has a similar grandeur to the gorgeous dress that Pugh wore and even has a long detachable train. Miranda Kerr's Princess Look

Taika Waititi was not going to settle for a simple suit for his fashion moment at the Met Gala and we love that! His suit was an amazing blend of blue and gray with a metallic finish to make a statement for the event. We love the black lapels as well as the black flower with pearl chain to mimic his partner Rita Ora's gown. Waititi's blazer was floor length and he paired it with white trousers. Cai Xunkun's Sequined Coat

What an incredible look from Chinese singer-songwriter Cai Xunken! This simple yet effective black coat blazer was beaded and sequinned to look like broken glass and it gave a striking look at the event. Xuken's Prada look was completed with a matching tie and some silver chains that fit the theme perfectly. Nicole Kidman looked incredible this feathered dress which she was rewearing from her iconic Chanel No.5 commercial which was filmed in 2004. The dress was designed by Lagerfeld himself and is therefore a perfect tribute to the late designer. On her dress there are reportedly 250 ostrich feathers which is where we took inspiration for this bridesmaid look. The dress on the right is from Coast and features a beautiful off-the-shoulder design that is enhanced by pink feathers that go all around to the back. Both dresses also feature a slit in the dress which allowed for more movement however the Coast blush dress has a more tailored look and is a more fitted silhouette. Kylie Jenner's Bold Red Look

Kylie Jenner looked absolutely gorgeous at the Met Gala this year is a bold red dress complete with red shoes and blue and red cape. Her interpretation on the theme was different to many of the other attendees who opted to wear his signature black and white look but was a nod to Lagerfeld's friendship with André Leon Talley who infamously wore bold capes that were initially designed by Karl himself. Actress Margot Robbie was the last Chanel ambassador that Karl Lagerfeld picked before his passing so the actress knew Karl and had worked with him in the past. For the event Margot Robbie wore a replica of Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1993 collection black dress that was originally modelled by none other than Cindy Crawford. We love the one shoulder aspect of this dress as well as the paneled corset however if your are having a religious ceremony it may not be appropriate, therefore why not have your bridesmaids in this fabulous black multiway dress. Although Karl Lagerfeld famously said 'Think pink, but don't wear it' we think Viola Davis looks stunning in this fushia dress by Valentino (a signature colour for them this past year). The colour seems to make her skin glow and we love the fan-like feather feature at the top of the dress. Taking inspiration from the way the feathers on the bodice of her dress seem to cascade down like cherry blossom we have found the perfect mother of the bride outfit for a spring/summer wedding! Glenn Close's Silver Vision

Glenn Close's 2023 Met Gala look paid homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld in two ways - his designs and his own personal styling. We think the colour of this dress is beautiful and we also love the sparkle as well as the voluminous cape that adds a gorgeous glamour to the look. Dua Lipa's Tweed Ballgown

We think co-chair Dua Lipa looked absolutely stunning in her white Chanel dress with black trim which was originally worn by Lagerfeld's muse Claudia Schiffer in the 1992 Chanel couture fall/winter show. While this would be perfect for a bride we think that the tweed material that this dress is made with is an amazing style for a mother of the bride or groom to wear. Often, it is the bride who wears white and therefore other guests try to stay away from this colour and this is why we think the dress on the right from Karen Millen would be perfect. We love the full skirted silhouette and the square neckline that is similar to Dua Lipa's but the brown and white dog tooth pattern makes the look feel less bridal.
