Laos is Southeast Asia's least developed country and is situated between Vietnam and Thailand.
The people are warm and welcoming, and their way of life is very relaxed. The infrastructure is very basic; roads are narrow and bumpy, electricity is sporadic and ATM machines rarely work, however this somehow adds to the appeal.
The cost of living is low, but exchange rates for the Laos Kip are influenced by US dollar prices.
The high season is from October to March, with mild temperatures and little rain. During April the weather is typically in the 30's with frequent showers, and the wet season follows from June to September, during which time schools are closed due to the impracticality of travel.
