Planning a wedding involves countless details, each as important as the next, and one vital decision you make as a bride is how to wear your hair. Your hairstyle not only complements your wedding dress and overall look but also one timeless accessory: the veil. If you're unsure of what bridal hairstyle is right for you, whether it's an elegant updo or romantic waves, choosing the right hairstyle can elevate the beauty of your veil and complete your wedding day ensemble.

To help ensure the placement of your veil enhances and complements your bridal hairstyle, we've gathered the 5 best hairstyles to wear with a veil from Kayleigh Twigg, Senior Top Stylist and Colour Specialist at Brooks & Brooks. Made from years of experience, these hairstyles are essential in perfecting your wedding look...

1. Low Twisted Chignon

For brides wanting a classic look, Kayleigh notes that the low twisted chignon is a timeless and popular updo for weddings. "It is one of those styles that has stayed on trend for years now and you can see why. It is a formal but undone look that is so adaptable to all hair types, thicknesses, colours and lengths."

This hairstyle is ideal for wearing a veil as the chignon bun sits low on the head, meaning that your veil can easily slide into place above the chignon bun.

2. Twisted Half Up

Kayleigh recommends this gorgeous hairstyle to those brides who usually don't wear their hair up, but they want a look that "is simply an enhanced version of what they would usually look like." Half up hairstyles are becoming increasingly popular for weddings due to people wanting to have a more natural but ‘done' look on their wedding day.

Similar to the low chignon bun, this twisted half-up is perfect for wearing a veil as the accessory can be placed above the twists!

3. High Bun

If you want flexibility on your veil placement, an updo is the hairstyle for you. According to Kayleigh, "higher looks are definitely an increasing trend. I am seeing more and more brides requesting a higher look. "

With a high bun, you have the freedom to place your veil underneath the bun, allowing it to be seen, or above for more coverage.

4. Ponytail

You can still achieve a classy updo without feeling like your neck is exposed. For people who still want to show a bit of length but still have their hair away from their face, Kayleigh suggests a ponytail.

"Simple looks are not going away anytime soon and a ponytail is the perfect blend of elegance and sophistication". A suitable place for the veil to be placed on a ponytail would be at the base for extra security.

5. The 2024 Trend Look

Although classic low looks will always be around, whether it's a messy, twisted, knotted, braided or smooth version of this updo, Kayleigh finds that this hairstyle is becoming this year's trend. Being so versatile it fits every bride's personality and style!

With this particular style, she enjoys playing with veil placement as there are so many options: "I like placing at the bottom exposing the whole updo but halfway up or on top are options also".

Veil placement is good to keep in mind when choosing your bridal hairstyle, as well as other factors like matching your hairstyle to your wedding dress.
