Facilities and Capacity
Inside The Retreat, you can choose from 6 beautiful spaces to hold your Civil Ceremony. With our largest room accommodating up to 80 Guests for your Ceremony and our smallest accommodating up to 6 guests, there are lots of options for you both to think about! During the warmer months, we offer outdoor Ceremonies - what could be more beautiful than exchanging vows with views of the Wessex Downs as your backdrop! We also offer Exclusive Hire of The Retreat.
Once you've tied the knot, you and your guests will enjoy a delicious Wedding Breakfast and Toast as the new couple. A fun Evening Reception will then unfold whilst you mingle, sip wine and dance while the sun sets over the Wessex Downs.
Located on sixteen acres of gorgeous grounds, with a sweeping staircase and a grand fireplace, there are many beautiful backdrops for photos!
As well as 55 individually styled bedrooms and suites, two stunning restaurants and an indulgent spa, there’s also a heated outdoor pool, a charming courtyard with a wine cellar and TV Chef Clodagh McKenna’s first signature store, as well as a Hair & Nail Salon, perfect for the bridal party’s finishing touches.

Enjoy full access to The Retreat with all 55 bedrooms, 6 boutique cottages and 5 event spaces for a private, house-party-style celebration. Exclusive Use starts from £41,880 per day, excluding food and beverage. The Courtyard and Spa remain open to the public, and a two-night minimum stay is usually required for weekend exclusivity.
Yes, The Retreat is licensed to host civil ceremonies and partnerships in several rooms and outdoor spaces in and around the hotel, approved by West Berkshire Council.
Yes and if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we have beautiful indoor spaces for your ceremony.
We offer flexible drinks options but you’re welcome to bring your own wine or champagne with a small corkage fee of £25 per still bottle and £35 per sparkling bottle, or choose one of our drinks packages.
The Wedding Meal is supplied by our in-house chefs. We can accommodate food trucks and external bars in certain areas for a fee, just let us know in advance.
You’ll have access from 11am on the morning of your wedding (or the day before if available) to give you plenty of time to style the space.
Last orders and music should finish by 23:30, in accordance with our licence.
Music must stop at 23:30 and we have a 90 decibel limit.
Sparklers can be arranged by prior agreement. Fireworks are not permitted.
Confetti made from dried petals or biodegradable materials is welcome.
Yes, we have a dedicated bridal suite where you can get ready in the morning (should this be booked the night before) and relax after your celebration.
