About New House Farm

New House Farm in Lorton Valley, Cumbria sits within fifteen acres of fields, woods, ponds and streams edged by the Lakeland Fells. The property includes a Grade II-listed country house that dates back to the 1650s and a series of historic barns including The Hayloft, Cart Shed and Milking Parlour. Together these spaces are used for weddings and stays, with five en-suite bedrooms in the house sleeping up to ten guests.

Weddings are typically centred on The Hayloft, a restored barn with oak beams, exposed stone walls, modern facilities and a professional kitchen. It is licensed for civil ceremonies and can hold up to 130 people for a reception. Couples have flexibility in how they use the space: seating and tables can be arranged in different layouts, and outdoor ceremonies are an option on the lawn or adjacent areas.

The Hayloft and other barn spaces are offered on an exclusive-use basis, giving couples access to the venue buildings and surrounding grounds. The setting around Crummock Water, Loweswater Lake and Buttermere provides opportunities for photographs and outdoor parts of the day. Five en-suite double bedrooms within the main house allow couples and close guests to stay on site, with a cooked breakfast served each morning.

Outdoor ceremonies are possible immediately outside The Cart Shed or on the lawn, supported by a full premises licence that includes music and bar until midnight. Couples can choose their caterers and other suppliers, and there are suggested local accommodation options a short drive away for larger groups.
