Nestled in Essex, Houchins is an enchanting exclusive use contemporary barn wedding venue. The barn is licensed for ceremonies and receptions, offers intimacy & romance. With an oak clad barn and 17th century farmhouse set in stunning grounds, it is one of the more original venues in the county. The neutral decor and exposed beams create a blank canvas for your personal touches. Houchins packages offer exceptional service, ensuring every detail is handled, so you can relax and savour the day.
Licensed for indoor or outdoor ceremonies, you have plenty of choice for hosting your wedding at Houchins. Choose from several unique spaces including the marquee, nestled in the stunning wedding garden, the whimsical woodlands, or the oak panelled ceremony room. Each has their own charm and character, allowing you to have the day of your dreams as you always imagined it.

With its light and airy feel and seating for up to 150 guests, you and your guests can sit down and enjoy each other's company in the elegant space. There is a choice of four different caterers at Houchins, meaning whatever style of food you would like, they can cater to it.
The historic farmhouse is available to accommodate you and your wedding party before the big day. Allowing you to get ready in comfort and style, surrounded by your nearest and dearest. A new edition in 2023 is a second dressing room meaning both of you can get ready in style and comfort when you book the farmhouse.
Located just off the A120 near Coggeshall, your guests won’t have to travel too far to find your venue. And within 15 minutes of Braintree and Colchester, there is plenty of accommodation and transport links for those needing to travel a bit further.
The Expert's View
"Houchins is in a rural part of Essex close to Coggeshall and is part of a large working farm, without any immediate neighbours. The drive takes you past carp fishing lakes into the venue, where there is guest accommodation in the farmhouse and an impressive honeymoon suite above the car port to the left, with a pond and lawn on the right, with the main venue tucked behind a fence for added privacy. I was impressed with the clever design of the barn; it's a contemporary design that would appeal to professional London couples, cleverly backing onto an agricultural barn, with all the space that caterers and bar staff need in the farmyard beyond. Within the barn there's an impressive fireplace and a very smart central bar, which divides the barn into zones. It means that there is loads of capacity for larger weddings, yet it feels cozy with smaller groups. One of the elements that couples told me they love about Houchins is the covered ceremony and reception terrace in the garden in front of the barn, with a stretch-style tent keeping the sun (or rain) off their guests. This is a great venue in a location that your guest will really enjoy. "

Our Sustainability Commitments
An Eco-Friendly Venue Houchins is an eco-friendly, family run venue. We really believe in helping the planet where we can and hope that you will be pleased to know that when you book Houchins you are choosing a venue that acts positively to reduce the impact of wedding celebrations on the environment. Later this year we will be planting a new wild flower meadow behind the house to encourage pollinators (bees) and we have an on-going programme to plant indigenous, native trees and hedgerows across our farm. Planting is a great way to combat climate change and has benefits for people, wildlife and the environment. It helps increase bio-diversity, provide shelter, prevent soil erosion, reduce flooding and much more. In addition to our planting we have made a few other changes around the venue and house to make us more sustainable and ask all our couples to consider what they can do to reduce their weddings’ environmental impact where possible? Recent initiatives to improve our green credentials include: Replacing the old gents toilets with water-less urinals Recycling all our waste (in conjunction with CPH) Encouraging our couples to bring less packaging to the venue where possible Replacing electric lights with LED/low voltage throughout the venue Removing single use toiletries in the house Encouraging our recommended caterers to source ‘locally’ as much as possible Our biggest single environmental initiative has been to heat the venue using a ‘water source heat pump’ meaning that the heating of the venue is almost completely carbon neutral. If we all make a few changes we can start to do our bit to help the environment recover and ensure a sound future for future generations… Small steps all make a difference, have you considered… Using recycled stationary or digital invitations Asking your caterer to use local produce where possible to reduce food miles Buying an organic dress! Or better still hiring a pre-loved dress!!
