About Winton Castle Estate
Auchen Castle sits near Moffat in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, on a private estate with gardens and grounds that extend across its historic setting. Couples can choose from a range of wedding formats, from small elopements and intimate gatherings to larger exclusive-use celebrations, and the venue supports civil ceremonies indoors in rooms with views over the gardens or outdoors beside its Italianate fountain.
The castle offers exclusive-use options where the historic reception rooms, gardens and 26 bedrooms are yours for the day, allowing celebrations to extend into the evening and beyond. With accommodation for up to 52 guests across individually designed bedrooms and several bridal suites, weddings can unfold over a full weekend if desired.
For dining and celebrations, the castle can seat 110 guests for a wedding breakfast and host up to 150 for dancing and evening gatherings. A dedicated manager and wedding planner work with couples on the detail, and the grounds provide outdoor ceremony locations as well as space for lawn games or drinks receptions.
Ceremonies range from turret elopements for smaller numbers to ceremonies in one of the reception rooms or garden. After the formalities, the grand reception rooms can be set for a wedding breakfast and then transformed for evening celebrations.

Absolutely ! Your very own Scottish Castle . The Castle, gardens and grounds are yours throughout your wedding with your celebrations tailored to meet your hopes and dreams. Exclusive hire available from the morning of the wedding at 7am until 12pm the following day with additional nights welcome to be added to provide the full Scottish wedding experience .
In Scotland it is the individual (e.g. the registrar) who holds the license, as opposed to the venue. This means that you can get married anywhere (anywhere that's legal! Winton castle offers the flexibility of an indoor ceremony within our exquisite Drawingroom or outisde the Castle's walled garden with lush wisteria around or within the terraced gardens set against the backdrop of St David's loch and estate.

We do ask that Weddings at Winton Castle finish at midnight. After this the staff turn back into mice !.
Yes, but only at certain times of the year . Due to our proximity to the local village, we can only allow low noise firework displays between the months of October- March (inclusive) which would take place at 9pm during the bands evening break.
Definitely a must for any wedding! Confetti can only be used outside of the Castle as long as it is biodegradable confetti or dried petal confetti.
Yes , we love a candlelit dining room. Our beautiful silver candelabra are provided for styling your wedding dining tables. Tea lights can be provided with prior arrangement.
Winton Castle has a range of accommodation options, with the Castle providing ten beautifully appointed bedrooms, including our recently refurbished Bridal suite. Your guests will also be given the choice to secure our three luxurious self-catering country houses, all within a 5-minute drive of the Castle itself, sleeping an additional 36 guests.
Yes there is ample parking for all your guests .
Due to the historical nature of the Castle and its interiors we are unable to allow dogs within the Castle, however dogs are welcome to join an outdoor ceremony or drinks reception.
Apart from our caterers , you are allowed to provide your own venders. These would include celebrants, photographers, florist , bands, wedding cake & much more.
A ramp accesses all of our main public rooms on the ground floor . A disabled access toilet is on the ground floor. Bedrooms are unable to be accessed due to location on upper floors.
Your dedicated wedding coordinator will guide you through the planning stages, be there throughout your wedding day as host ensuring all goes as planned and will wave you farewell the day after your wedding.
For larger weddings up to 250 guests, you can dine and dance the night away in a marquee hired specially for your big day. Located on our croquet lawn with wonderful views towards the castle and south over the terraced gardens and Sir David’s Loch.
