About Winton Castle Estate
Winton Castle was designed by William Wallace, the king's Master Mason. This 16th Century Category A listed mansion is of Scottish Renaissance architecture. Inside, five inter-connecting reception rooms provide a series of spaces for a celebration. The Drawing Room can hold 100 guests for a wedding ceremony, while the Dining Room can seat up to 100 for your wedding breakfast, with the option to extend this to 130 by using adjoining rooms.
The castle and its gardens are hired on an exclusive-use basis, ensuring privacy for each event. The grounds include a walled garden and terraced gardens that overlook Sir David's Loch, both of which are options for outdoor ceremonies, drinks receptions, pre and post wedding BBQ , or even a summer ceilidh dance or two. For larger weddings, a marquee can be set up on the croquet lawn for events of 100 to 250 guests. The estate’s location in East Lothian is approximately a 40-minute drive from Edinburgh city centre and its international airport.
A dedicated wedding coordinator assists with planning and managing the event, from creating personalised table plans to organising a ceremony rehearsal. Our panel of Four caterers create bespoke menus, and couples are invited to a complimentary food and wine tasting before the wedding. For guests staying on the estate, the castle has nine bedrooms for up to 18 people. Three additional country houses, located a five-minute drive away, provide accommodation for a further 36 guests. The team can also arrange a variety of activities on the estate, including clay pigeon shooting, archery, and mini Highland games, perfect for pre and post wedding fun.

Absolutely ! Your very own Scottish Castle . The Castle, gardens and grounds are yours throughout your wedding with your celebrations tailored to meet your hopes and dreams. Exclusive hire available from the morning of the wedding at 7am until 12pm the following day with additional nights welcome to be added to provide the full Scottish wedding experience .
In Scotland it is the individual (e.g. the registrar) who holds the license, as opposed to the venue. This means that you can get married anywhere (anywhere that's legal! Winton castle offers the flexibility of an indoor ceremony within our exquisite Drawingroom or outisde the Castle's walled garden with lush wisteria around or within the terraced gardens set against the backdrop of St David's loch and estate.

Yes, but only at certain times of the year. Due to our proximity to the local village, we can only allow low noise firework displays between the months of October- March (inclusive) which would take place at 9pm during the bands evening break.
Definitely a must for any wedding! Confetti can only be used outside of the Castle as long as it is biodegradable confetti or dried petal confetti.
Yes, we love a candlelit dining room. Our beautiful silver candelabra are provided for styling your wedding dining tables. Tea lights can be provided with prior arrangement.
Winton Castle has a range of accommodation options, with the Castle providing nine beautifully appointed bedrooms. Your guests will also be given the choice to secure our three luxurious self-catering country houses, all within a 5-minute drive of the Castle itself, sleeping an additional 36 guests.
Yes there is ample parking for all your guests.
Due to the historical nature of the Castle and its interiors we are unable to allow dogs within the Castle, however dogs are welcome to join an outdoor ceremony or drinks reception.
Apart from our caterers, you are allowed to provide your own venders. These would include celebrants, photographers, florist, bands, wedding cake & much more.
A ramp accesses all of our main public rooms on the ground floor. A disabled access toilet is on the ground floor. Bedrooms are unable to be accessed due to location on upper floors.
Your dedicated wedding coordinator will guide you through the planning stages, be there throughout your wedding day as host ensuring all goes as planned and will wave you farewell the day after your wedding.
For larger weddings up to 250 guests, you can dine and dance the night away in a marquee hired specially for your big day. Located on our croquet lawn with wonderful views towards the castle and south over the terraced gardens and Sir David’s Loch.
