About Bodleian Library Weddings

In the heart of Oxford’s historic centre, Bodleian Library Weddings uses spaces within the Old Bodleian Library that are licensed for civil weddings and partnerships.

The venue includes rooms such as Convocation House and the Divinity School, each with its own architectural character; Convocation House sits in a 17th-century building with fixed benches and a fan-vaulted ceiling, while the Divinity School is a late Gothic hall that interconnects with Chancellor’s Court and the Old Schools Quadrangle.

Ceremonies for up to around 100 guests can take place in Convocation House, with guests entering through Chancellor’s Court, and there is the option to add a drinks reception there or in the courtyard after the service. On Saturdays and selected Sundays, when the library is closed to the public in the evening, couples can use the Old Schools Quadrangle and enter the Divinity School for a reception; in this space seated dinners and evening celebrations can take place later into the night.

Outdoor spaces such as the quadrangle can be used after a ceremony for a reception or photos. The venue team can support planning and recommend suppliers familiar with the building and its requirements.
