With 35 ensuite bedrooms included in the price, set in 18 acres of idyllic grounds and surrounded by a world-class nature reserve Thicket Priory seems as if it has been picked out of a fairy tale, it is a truly once in a lifetime wedding venue. Our bespoke hire includes totally exclusive use of the grounds and house, with 35 en-suite bedrooms capable of accommodating up to 72 guests.
On arrival to Thicket Priory, you and your guests are encouraged to make yourself at Home. The word ‘hotel’ is not in our vocabulary.
A member of the team will be on hand to greet your guests and start their adventure, firstly finding their room key with their names hand written on, and then the fun of exploring the building to get to their bedroom.
The corridors of Thicket Priory are a labyrinth of cosy spaces; as guests explore to find their bedroom, they will find themselves bumping into friends and family that they haven’t yet met, so the building takes care of introductions for you. This is often a pressure on the wedding day, so the building takes care of this for you!
Each key has the direction to the guest bedrooms, and on arrival to their room they will find out the history behind the name of the room, for example, we have a room named after Theodosia who was a nun from the past with a few bad habits!
A little bit about one of our favourite features...The Pantries! Similarly, to the arrival and check-in, we have avoided ‘hotel’ style features, so the pantries provide social spaces for friends and family to meet, rather than hide away with a tea caddy in their rooms. There are four pantries scattered around the building so those in the higher reaches of the bedrooms won’t need to walk too far for their morning coffee.
Milk, Tea, Coffee, Decaf, Hippy Teas…and of course Hot Chocolate & Marshmallows can be found in the pantries, along with some delicious chocolate biscuits. Anyone fancy a Tunnocks Teacake?

Yes, we have a number of areas which are licensed, both indoors and outdoors.
Yes, Although our house is like something out of a fairy-tale, our glorious gardens are pretty special too. If you would like to hold your ceremony outside, why not opt for our beautiful bandstand in the orchard, with its gorgeous views over the extensive gardens and tranquil lake
You are welcome to supply your own wine in place of our 'drinks collection' and pay a corkage. All other drinks are purchased from our in-house Gryffin Bar, drafts, wine, cocktails...etc
We use recommended Caterers. Whether you choose from the extensive range of individual dishes or menus, or request something bespoke, our fabulous choice of recommended caterers will accommodate your every need.
We have 35 en-suite bedrooms capable of accommodating up to 72 guests, which are inclusive in the venue hire price.
The day before the wedding we allow access for setting up so there is no stress for yourself or your suppliers.

No, we just use a little common sense with regards to not waking up the local villages! Our neighbours, the nuns love some live music!
No, we are surrounded by a nature reserve on 3 sides therefore need to look after the wellbeing of the local wildlife.

Yes in the Ballroom and the Bar areas, all other areas throughout the building would be LED candles which we have a huge in-house stock of.
Yes we have 2 (arguably 3) master suites. Two suites are required as there are 2 people getting married, they are great for Bride & Groom, Bride & Bride or Groom & Groom!
We have 35 ensuite bedrooms in total, however is you require additional accommodation there are various places nearby. York is also only a 20 minute drive.
