About Simply Human Ceremonies

Based in Alton, Hampshire, Simply Human Ceremonies creates personal, non-religious wedding ceremonies for couples who want their ceremony to feel natural, meaningful and genuinely their own. Led by Sharon, each ceremony is written from scratch and shaped around the couple at the centre of it — their story, their people, their values and the kind of moment they want to create.

I know that for many couples, the ceremony is the part they feel most unsure about. You may know you do not want something too formal, traditional or scripted, but not quite know what you want instead. That is completely normal.

There is no set format. Your ceremony can include whatever feels meaningful to you — personal vows, readings, music, guest involvement, handfasting, a quaich, family traditions, something fun or unexpected, or something much simpler. The aim is not to include things for the sake of it, but to create a ceremony that feels natural, personal and right for you.

The process begins with a conversation. We talk about your story, what matters to you, who your important people are, and how you want the ceremony to feel. From there, I write and shape the ceremony from scratch, with care and attention to detail, so it feels like it belongs to you.

What makes my approach different is the care I take with the small details — the way you talk about each other, the ordinary moments that say something real, and the things that might not seem important at first but often become the heart of the ceremony.

My ceremonies have been described as having a real warmth throughout, and as feeling personal to the couple at the centre of them. I want the whole process to feel calm, thoughtful and well held, so that on the day you can feel confident that everything is in safe hands.

I offer weddings, elopements, vow renewals and commitment ceremonies across Hampshire and surrounding areas, with selected UK-wide availability.

You are very welcome to get in touch for an initial, no-obligation conversation to talk things through and see what feels right.

FAQs

A humanist celebrant creates personal, non-religious ceremonies centred on you — your story, values and people. They can include cultural traditions, rituals, music, readings, vows or anything meaningful, but not religious worship or prayer. An independent celebrant may include religious or spiritual elements, but usually works alone. As a Humanist UK Celebrant I am part of an accredited network, so if I were ever seriously unwell, support is available to find you another accredited celebrant.

Yes. I offer personal, non-religious ceremonies for weddings, elopements, vow renewals and commitment ceremonies. Each ceremony is written from scratch and shaped around you — your story, your values, your people and the kind of moment you want to create. There is no set format. Your ceremony can include personal vows, readings, music, guest involvement, handfasting, a quaich, family traditions, or something much simpler.

Yes. Your ceremony should feel like yours, so your ideas, words and choices are very welcome. We will shape the ceremony together. I will write the first draft based on our conversations, your story and what matters to you, and then we will refine it together until it feels right. You can also write your own vows, and I can support you with structure, tone and wording so they feel natural, personal and true to you.

No — there is no set format for a celebrant-led ceremony. Your ceremony can include whatever feels meaningful to you: your story, personal vows, readings, music, guest involvement, handfasting, a quaich, family traditions, or something much simpler. The only thing it needs to do is feel right for you.

Yes, absolutely. I create personal, non-religious ceremonies for all couples. Your ceremony will be shaped around you — your story, your values, your people and the kind of moment you want to create. The aim is always the same: a ceremony that feels natural, meaningful and genuinely reflective of you.

I create personal, non-religious ceremonies that can honour your different backgrounds, cultures and family traditions in a way that feels respectful and meaningful. A humanist ceremony does not include religious worship or prayer, but it can include readings, music, rituals, symbolic elements, cultural traditions or family involvement that reflect who you are and what matters to you.

I need to get to know you so I can create a ceremony that feels personal, natural and genuinely reflective of you. We can meet online, so it does not matter if you are not local or have busy schedules. The first conversation is relaxed and simply gives us a chance to talk through your story, your ideas and how you want the ceremony to feel. From there, I can begin shaping something that feels right for you.

As soon as you have a date in mind, it is worth getting in touch so I can check availability. That said, if I am available, I can usually support weddings at shorter notice. Ideally, I would suggest allowing at least 2–3 weeks so we have enough time to talk, shape the ceremony, write the script and make any refinements. For peak wedding dates, booking earlier is always recommended.

There is ongoing work towards changing the law to give legal recognition to humanist marriages in England and Wales. If that changes in future, I hope to be able to offer legally recognised humanist weddings too. At the moment, humanist weddings are not legally binding, so couples usually complete the legal registration separately and then have a celebrant-led ceremony that feels more personal and meaningful. Your ceremony can still be completely personal, heartfelt & reflective of you.

Personal Message

Hello, I’m Sharon, the celebrant behind Simply Human Ceremonies. I know planning a wedding can feel exciting, but also a little overwhelming when you’re working out what kind of ceremony feels right. You don’t need to have all the answers. We begin with a conversation, and I’ll guide you calmly through the process. I’ll take time to get to know your story, the small details and what matters most, then create a ceremony that feels personal, natural and genuinely yours.
