About Auchen Castle
Auchen Castle in Dumfriesshire offers couples a range of ways to mark their wedding day in a historic Scottish setting framed by 34 acres of private gardens, Italianate landscaping and a private lake. The Grade B-listed castle can host ceremonies and celebrations for very small gatherings or larger events, with packages designed to suit numbers from intimate elopements up to 110 day guests and 130 evening guests.
During the day couples can choose to marry in one of several indoor spaces such as the castle’s ceremony room or the turret, or take vows outdoors in the gardens. After the formalities, the castle’s reception rooms and gardens provide settings for the wedding breakfast and evening festivities, with dedicated planning support from a wedding coordinator and on-the-day manager included in all options.
Accommodation is arranged within the castle’s 26 individually styled bedrooms, all en-suite, many with views over the gardens or lake. The eBrochure highlights four-poster suites among the rooms and notes that overnight stays are part of many packages, including a bridal suite for the wedding night.
Weddings at Auchen Castle centre on choice and flexibility: couples can select from three inclusive packages that bundle room hire with food and drink options, or tailor their day with bespoke choices for ceremony location, reception, catering and extras.

Absolutely! Auchen Castle is a showstopping venue. Exclusive use will give you run of the gardens, the castle, and all 26 bedrooms. For the ultimate Scottish castle wedding experience, we recommend exclusive use! We offer exceptionally competitive prices for exclusive use weddings.
As a Scottish wedding venue, we don't actually require a license! In Scotland it is the individual (e.g. the registrar) who holds the license, as opposed to the venue. This means that you can get married anywhere (with the landowner's permission!) With that in mind, we have complete flexibility on where you hold your ceremony - in the castle, the gardens, by the lake, or in the surrounding grounds.
Definitely! Outdoor weddings are available at Auchen Castle. You can get married in the Italian Garden, the surrounding grounds, or at the edge of the beautiful lake.
