About Clearwell Castle
Clearwell Castle rises from the Forest of Dean behind a sweeping tree-lined drive and Portcullis entrance, set within approximately 20 acres of manicured grounds. One of the earliest examples of a neo-gothic mansion in England, the castle was built circa 1727 for the Wyndham family, with parts of the house; including the Ballroom, dating back to the early 1600s.
Ceremonies take place either inside the Ballroom or outdoors at the Bandstand. The Ballroom offers a 75-foot aisle, leaded lancet windows, hardwood floors and a raised dais for signing the register. Outside, the Bandstand is positioned within the gardens with the castle as its backdrop. Following the ceremony, guests move through the reception rooms and terrace before returning to the Ballroom for the wedding breakfast, where up to 150 guests can be seated beneath high ceilings and marble pillars. Evening celebrations continue in the Cellar Bar & Disco with the in-house DJ, and the castle holds up to 250 guests for the evening reception and buffet. Exclusive use ensures only one wedding per day.
Accommodation within the castle includes 12 luxury bedrooms and three Coachman’s bedrooms, sleeping up to 34 guests, with two large family suites and the Gresham Honeymoon Suite featuring a spa bath and four-poster bed. A short stroll away, The Wyndham provides a further 24 bedrooms and space for Night Before and Day After parties. All-inclusive packages include Classical, Intimate, Twilight and Luxe options, each incorporating catering, drinks, a dedicated Personal Wedding Manager, DJ and disco until midnight, and private access to the estate.
