Milling Barn is an exclusive-use barn wedding venue set in the Hertfordshire countryside near Throcking. Dating back to the 17th century, the venue features original oak beams, high ceilings and characterful barn spaces. Licensed for civil ceremonies, Milling Barn allows couples to host their ceremony and reception in one location, with indoor and outdoor areas for celebrations and photography.

Milling Barn is a historic barn wedding venue offering couples exclusive use of the entire site for their wedding day. Surrounded by open countryside, the venue combines rustic charm with a refined, relaxed atmosphere, making it suitable for weddings throughout the year.

The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies and offers a choice of beautiful indoor spaces. The Oak Barn provides an intimate setting for ceremonies, while the larger Milling Barn is ideal for wedding breakfasts and evening celebrations. The Dairy Barn offers an additional space for drinks receptions, mingling or relaxed seating, creating a natural flow between each part of the day.

Milling Barn can accommodate up to 144 guests for daytime ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, with capacity for up to 250 evening guests. Outdoor areas, including a patio and countryside views, provide opportunities for drinks receptions and wedding photography.

All catering is prepared on site by the venue’s in-house chefs, with menus designed to suit a variety of styles, seasons and dietary requirements. Each barn is equipped with a fully licensed bar, and couples are able to personalise the venue with their chosen décor.

A private dressing room is available for wedding preparations, and on-site accommodation allows selected guests to stay overnight. The venue team offers planning support from the initial viewing through to the wedding day itself. Located near Throcking, Milling Barn is easily accessible from Hertfordshire and surrounding counties, with on-site parking available for guests.

This is an exclusive use events venue. We will conduct viewings on the morning of your wedding up to an hour before the ceremony.

The venue is licensed to hold ceremonies and has a capacity of 144.

Wedding ceremonies at Milling Barn are held indoors. The Oak Barn provides a warm and atmospheric ceremony setting with exposed beams and original character, offering a beautiful alternative to an outdoor ceremony while ensuring comfort and reliability in all seasons.

Milling Barn does not charge corkage, as external food and drink are not permitted. All catering and beverages are provided by the venue’s in-house chefs, with a range of drinks packages available to suit different wedding styles.

Milling Barn does not allow external caterers. All food is prepared on site by the venue’s in-house catering team, offering a selection of menus and catering options for weddings.

Venue hire at Milling Barn begins at 9:00am, from which time couples and their suppliers can access the venue to decorate. Exact arrangements can be confirmed with the venue team during planning.

The music goes off and bar closes at midnight, with guests and suppliers being asked to finish their drinks and leave the building and off-site by 12.30 am.

Milling Barn operates a sound limiter set to 95dBA for all live music and DJ entertainment.

Milling Barn does not allow fireworks.

We only permit dried natural flower petals or lavender confetti, and only used outside.

We do not permit real flames inside the venue, but you are welcome to use LED tea lights or LED candles.

Yes. Milling Barn offers a dedicated honeymoon suite for the couple to use on their wedding night as a part of the venue accommodation. The accommodation will be charged separately from the venue hire.

Yes. We have 8 en-suite bedrooms including the Honeymoon suite, sleeping up to 16 guests.
