Kelly Hawes is a modern Celebrant based in Hertfordshire. She's well known for writing one-of-a-kind ceremonies for fun-loving couples, who want to celebrate their marriage with joy and laughter rather than a standard ceremony that's just like all the others you've seen. Guests will be walking away with comments such as "that's the best ceremony ever", "it was so personal", and my couples always say that their guests are talking about the ceremony afterwards.
The process to work with Kelly is very hands on. She'll want to meet you in person rather than sending you countless questionnaires, preferring to chat through your plans and visions and being able to offer ideas and hear your stories first hand.
You will get to see and approve everything written for your wedding ceremony and you will be encouraged to make changes or offer more information wherever you'd like.
You and your guests will feel relaxed with Kelly's light-hearted and warm style and will be encouraged to laugh along one minute and dab their tears the next. The end result will be a ceremony that your family and friends will rave about and feel compelled to comment on, rather than leave the room and forget it ever happened.

I'm an Independent Celebrant which means I work for myself. I write a purely bespoke ceremony just for you, and because it can't include the legal signing of marriage registration, there are no rules. A Registrar is someone who is appointed by the local council and who you won't have struck up a relationship with. The Registrar will perform a standard, legal civil ceremony - exactly like all the weddings you've ever seen before
As an Indepedent Celebrant I can adapt to your needs and will include content that you wish, which can include religious and spiritual elements. A Humanist Celebrant belongs to a non-faith based group called Humanist UK and will perform a totally non-religious nor spiritual ceremony. Othere than that, we are both pretty similar, so it's a matter of choosing who best aligns with your vision or your belief system.
My prices are slightly discounted for Monday to Friday dates so start at £735.00 for 2026. Weekend price starts at £775.00 for 2026. Up-to-date prices are always shown clearly on my website.
Yes, me and me alone! No AI used here either by the way. I will use the information that I learn about you from our in person meet up to write the ceremony and will not be sending you endless questionnaires

The only part that I need to include is to inform everyone that I am a Celebrant and this ensures no one is ever mis-led into believing I am performing a legal civil ceremony. However this is done before any entrance and I don't make a big deal out of it.

Yes please. Ideally I encourage a face to face meeting for our full consultation. If location doesn't allow for this then video call is fine
Well, how long is a piece of string? All I can say is that I only take one booking on any single day - so that I am dedicated to you and you alone on your wedding day. So if you want to book twelve to eighteen months in advance that's fine with me, and I can often cater for last minute bookings too if I have availability. Remember though I need at least a few weeks to arrange our in person meeting and to actually write something perfect for you.
No, you will need to do this separately with a Registrar and there are a few options to getting this part done. I can discuss this in great detail with you as it is very complicated to explain. However, the cheapest and simplest way to go about this is by just taking 2 witnesses and asking for a 2+2 statutory marriage at you registry office.
Our Sustainability Commitments
Whilst Kelly prefers to use a paper copy of your ceremony script on the day (there's never any technical issues with paper!), it's recycled paper and printed on both sides to minimise any waste. Many of Kelly's dresses and outfits are bought from quality second hand avenues - she believe all dresses deserve their day too! Opting to work mainly within the 3 counties surrounding her home also avoids unnecessary travel.
