FAQs
Are fireworks allowed?
The Tythe Barn dates back to 1370 and has a beautiful thatched roof. Due to the potential risk, fireworks are therefore not allowed at the venue.
Is there accommodation on site?
Yes, we are thrilled to be able to offer you our beautiful farmhouse accommodation available for a two night mid-week break or an entire weekend! It has seven double bedrooms, including a bridal-suite, two large reception rooms, a dining room, country kitchen, open fires, a tennis court, a wonderful wood-fuelled hot tub and there's an adjacent Shepherd's Hut with sleeping for two, all right next door to the barn!
Can we use our own caterers?
We are partnered with award-winning caterers Absolute Taste and do not allow outside catering in the barn.
Where can guests park?
The car park at The Tythe Barn has plenty of parking space for all guests, with space for 75 cars and the capacity to accommodate larger vehicles, such as a coach or bus. Cars can remain in the car park overnight until 10am the following morning.
Is there additional accommodation nearby?
Yes. Please ask the office for our list of nearby Hotels and B&B's.
Can we have exclusive use of the venue?
The Tythe Barn is an ‘exclusive use’ venue which means we only ever permit and host one event at a time. As a private, family run venue set on our family estate you will be the only couple getting married and the collection of barns, the grounds and our experienced team of staff will all be dedicated to looking after you and your guests for your entire event.
Are you licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, we are licensed for up to 150 guests and can host both indoor and outdoor ceremonies. Indoor ceremonies take place in our 14th Century stone barn beneath a canopy of fairy lights and gorgeous oak beams. Smaller and more intimate ceremonies can also take place in our Cowshed barn featuring beams, wood burners and fairy lights. We are also able to hold different types of ceremonies at the barn eg humanist
Can we have the wedding ceremony outdoors?
Our outdoor ceremonies can take place on any day of the year, as long as the weather remains warm and dry and use the stunning barn grounds with it’s wonderful oak pergola and pretty garden path.
Do you charge corkage if we supply our own wine?
There is no Corkage fee (for up to 100 guests) on Pre-Ceremony/Reception and Wedding Breakfast wine and sparkling wine only. No soft drinks, beer or spirits are included and there is an additional cost for extra numbers. Restrictions apply - contact the team for more information.
From what time can we get access to decorate the venue?
We would like to help you have the wedding day that you have dreamed of and fully appreciate that each couple have different ideas for how their day will be. We help you create a completely bespoke wedding day that fits in with your own plans and wishes and where we feel it may be beneficial to you both, we may step in to make a few tweaks or to offer some guidance and advice.
What time does the reception need to finish?
This does depend on which day of the week your wedding is booked but for a weekend wedding The Tythe Barn contract allows couples and their guests to party on until midnight. You can discuss having an extension to your day. Just before midnight the bar will call last orders.
Are there noise restrictions if we have a live band?
Like most venues we do have a sound limiter in place. It is set at 87.5 decibels. Please don’t panic if this sounds completely alien to you, your wedding band or DJ will know exactly what this means. It’s simply a volume limit that they can play to, and most professional entertainers will be able to tailor the volume of their act to our venue’s limit.
Is confetti allowed?
We only allow dried lavender and bubbles for those ‘confetti’ moments, both of which can be ordered through the venue.
Are candles allowed?
Included in our venue hire are our iron candlesticks and real flame oil candles however we do also allow couples to bring their own candles to the venue – as long as the flame sits below the top of the candle holder.
Is there a honeymoon or bridal suite?
The Shepherd’s Hut is our wonderful Wedding Suite tucked away on our estate and designed entirely for the couple on their wedding night. Complete with mini kitchen, en-suite, wood burner, luxury double bed and all the ‘home comforts’ you might expect for a luxurious stay, albeit in a quirky wooden hut on wheels. From June 2022 we have our luxury farmhouse accommodation which includes a beautiful bridal suite.
About The Tythe Barn
An award-winning venue comprising a cluster of beautifully restored barns alongside a 17th century boutique Farmhouse. Tythe is one of the most impressive wedding barns in the country: elegantly rural, undeniably fun, this exclusive estate is set on the working farm of the Deeley family in rural Oxfordshire.
Relaxed and informal, yet well-known for its incredible attention to detail. This charming venue brings together the beautifully restored thatched Tythe Barn (dating back to 1370), adjoining Cowshed with its old terracotta roof, luxury dressing room (fondly referred to as The Nook), the stunning interior-designed Manor Farmhouse offering seven double en-suite bedrooms and the cosy Shepherd’s Hut which sleeps an additional two.
Tythe can be hired exclusively for one or two nights and offers everything on site: licensed for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies with the flexibility to adapt to both small or larger wedding parties, dedicated rooms for the groom and the bride to get ready in and accommodation for 16 guests – including tea and cake and a farmhouse supper for residents as well as breakfast on both mornings. Tythe are known for going above and beyond, and have a comprehensive list of what's available. From the Champagne Bar, hot tub and tennis court at The Farmhouse to the outdoor wood-burners, a Land Rover offering pre-ceremony drinks and an abundance of fairy lights scattered throughout both the indoors and outdoors, this is a venue that boasts more than 25 years of experience planning and hosting weddings.
Quintessentially English and run by a devoted team who are proud owners of multiple awards for their customer service, Tythe has mastered the art of planning weddings whilst lovingly guiding couples through the process. A delightfully English setting that is simple, honest and maintains an understated elegance – be part of their story.
As one of the most established barn venues in the country, Tythe offers a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the industry. Once there, time slows down, you’re on Tythe time and there’s a certain magic around every corner. You notice the commitment to detail, the passion that has touched every element, and the welcoming smiles of a team that love what they do.
Our Sustainability Commitments
As a family run business based on our working farm, looking after the land and protecting our precious barns is something that comes naturally! • Our biomass boiler runs on wood pellets which create enough energy to heat the entire venue, whilst solar panels on the roof of our grain store produce enough power to light the whole venue. • We created a kitchen herb garden to allow us to grow mint for our Pimms receptions and the apples from our orchard have become the key ingredient in our Tythe Apple Sour cocktail! • We harvest water to water our plants and have a water purification system to be able to serve still and sparkling water to our guests in our re-usable glass bottles. • We recycle all our cardboard and our corks. • Over the last ten years we have planted over 1000 trees around our estate. If you’re searching for a venue that cares as much about the environment as it does about creating unforgettable weddings then we’d love for you to get in touch.
